System install
I am in the middle of installing my amp right now. I have it under the passenger seat and have run the power and ground wires so far. I didn't want to cut the under seat vent so I used 2 peices of 2x2 and mounted the amp on them so the vent could go under the amp. When I did this the back of the seat would be touching the amp when the seat was moved forward. So, I took the 2x2s and cut them at an angle so the back was lower than the front. Now the amp clears the seat when it is as far forward as it can go. However, the vent does not come out the other side of the tunnel the amp and 2x2s create. So I am going to have to extend it because I don't want heat coming out under the amp. I didn't want to drill holes in the floor to secure the amp but I also didn't want it moving around under there. I decided to test to see if velcro would stick to the carpet. I ended up putting 4 1x1 squares of velcro on the 2x2s and the amp doesn't move at all but can still be easily removed. Plus, I didn't have to remove the seat to secure it this way.
I have also removed the stock deck and am making an adapter using a reverse and normal harness so I can run speaker wire to the amp without having to cut any stock wires. The only bad thing about doing it this way is I can no longer dim the light on the HU. This doesn't bother me though, since I never dim the lights anyway. Tomarrow morning I am going to run the speaker wires from the amp to the HU. I want to run it under the carpet along the passenger door but don't know how to remove the door sill. I tried just pulling on it but I didn't want to break it so I figured I better come and ask you guys how to remove them. Any help would be great. Also, my speakers should arive tomarrow. I will post pics of the amp and speaker install when I am finished. |
