Sylvania SilverStar[tm] Bulb Burned out...
 

HHHmmm. i swapped in the aforementioned bulb and it died in less than a year...

The orignal bulb on the passenger side is still find after 4+ years...

Any other similar experiences?

Although if I had to do it again I wouldnt go with silverstars. Deff those for offroad use only ones they have a pepboys, a buddy of mine got them, better in everyway.

Knowing all that was involved in changing it aH-gain - it was STILL a PITA! A piss-poor design IMHO.

Are you saying PepBoys "white" bulbs are better than Silverstars?

Mine burned out pretty quickly too. From what I've heard, if you get Silverstars made by Osram and not Sylvania, they'll last much longer. I think they only have Osram ones in Europe or something, though, because I couldn't find a set anywhere, even online.

I just upgraded the headlights in my RX-7 from sealed beams to H4, and the company that sold me the housings also had Hella Optilux bulbs for pretty cheap, so I tried them. I can't say anything anbout the longetivity of them, but the Hella bulbs are at least as bright as Silverstars without the blue tint. I liked 'em so much I got on eBay and bought sets for all three of my Mazdas.

Hum, I guess I'll skip the Silverstars and try the Philips bulbs first.

Ya I have gone through a couple of Silverstars on my car already... in less than 2 years

ive got the phillips ultra whites (not sure of the exact type of white)and they have lasted at least a year so far and still going strong.

silverstars & most aftermarket bulbs have a limited life. mine lasted almost 1.5 years, but part of that may be cuz i wrecked the 1st protege and reused my silverstars in my new protege. osram & sylvania are the same company and in fact the bulbs are made in the same exact factory. the sylvania bulbs are marked for US market and contain a small amt of blue tint so the light appears "whiter" but otherwise are the same osram versions. the osrams dont have the blue tint so its actually a little brighter.

if you wanna try the euro versions of the osram silverstars go to www.powerbulbs.co.uk, pretty decent prices. they also carry philips line of bulbs. the powerplus and powerblue bulbs are rebranded osrams.

I won't buy anymore Silverstars ... they burn out way too fast. I'm still waiting to see how the ones below the Siverstars in the Sylvania range (damn if I can remember the name) hold up. They're just about as bright, but not as white.

For 9005 (P5 high beams) or 9006 replacements, rallylights.com as some new halogen infra red bulbs that are supposed to be almost up to HID standards at about $30. We're going to try some on our Spec Miatas in some upcoming night races.

Good to hear that I'm not the only person who had one burn out quickly. One of mine lasted 6 mos. Good thing I know the manager of the parts store and he let me return the bulb and get a new one free. :)

The design on them seems a bit off though, they don't really fit the opening in my headlight housing on my 02 P5. I think I'll try something different as suggested in other posts on this thread.

any aftermarket bulb is going to burn out because there is a problem with the headlight wiring that make them blow, usually the passenger side goes first. i would just get an h.i.d. kit and save the money in the long run, cuz i went through 5 sets of piaa bulbs and they are about $80 a set
