switch for dome light

hey all,

i was wondering if anyone has had trouble with the switch for their dome lights. mine keeps telling my light that the door is ajar when i close it really well (short of slamming the door). i drive a '96 protege dx, if anyone has any information i would really appreciate it. also, in the event i would have to replace it... how would i go about finding a new one?

thanks in advance,

It's probably not the dome light switch - it's most likely a door pin switch that's crapping out on you.

I don't know what the older ones look like, but take a look at yours. Make sure it has no rust or oxidation on it, and clean it up if it does. It's possible that some of the wiring or the switch itself is loose, too - and that when the door closes, the pin doesn't break the light circuit properly.

Of course, I can't be sure that this is the problem, but the door pin switches take a lot of abuse over the years, so it's the first place to look when you have trouble like this.

Good luck.
