sub/amp help
 

im finally adding a sub, thinking about a jl audio 12W3v2..heres the problem. i went to buy this online and i found myself with 3 different options.

12W3-D2 12" DUAL VOICE COIL 2 ohm 250 WATTS $181
12W3-D4- 12" DUAL VOICE COIL 4 ohm 250 WATTS $181
12W3-D6- 12" DUAL VOICE COIL 6 ohm 250 WATTS $181

im getting the crossfire vr705d because of the supposed quality and its ability to "fit my needs". it says this for the specs i guess that are related to my sub dilemma.

4x50 + 1x300 watts @ 4 Ohm
4x100 +1x300 watts @ 2 Ohm

my question is..what sub do i buy haha? if i buy the 4ohm, do i limit myself to only the 4 ohm configuration? thanks for your help!!

Long story short...you will be fine with any of the 3 subs listed. All the subs are DVC so the final ohm rating on the sub will be doubled or halved depending on how you wire the voice coils together (2ohm DVC= 1ohm parallel, 4ohm series). Also, it looks like your amp does not supply more power with a lower ohm driver...so it probably doesn't matter unless you plan on adding additional subs in the future. I would go with the 2ohm and wire it in series for a 4ohm load. Then if you want to add another sub you can get the same one and run them both at a 4ohms, then the amp would see 2ohm and you would be safe. Just my .02 :D

i just went to columbus car audio here in town...listen to the jl's- they sound pretty nice. im lookin for sql more so than spl, but sometimes crankin it up wouldnt be too bad of an idea. ne1 else agree with blue there with the elemental? id hate to buy somethin i havent heard unless its pretty damn good. saving 60 bucks would be nice tho :)

looking at the elemental designs site...why are these amps so cheap? are they any good? do u guys think they're better than the crossfire?

It is pretty damn good, plus it comes with a 3 year warranty. The JL audio won't come with any if you buy online. At least, I don't think it will. My suggestion is to also get the Elemental Design. You will not be disappointed. The amp you mentioned is probably not a bad amp, but the Watt rating at 2 ohms is probably only for the 4 channel section and the Sub section would not like under 4 ohm. So definately get either a single 4 ohm or dual 2 ohm and wire it in series.

What rider69 mentioned is true...there is no such thing as an AUTHORIZED INTERNET DEALER FOR JL AUDIO. You must buy them in an actual shop for you to have a Warranty....otherwise you are on your own.
