Stock stereo???????

Hello everyone

Just wondering if anyone knew how to remove that HUGE chunck of electronics they call a stereo from the Pro 5. I can't seem to figure out how to remove the trim or the stereo itself.

Any comments would be Awsome!!!

cheers

Here:

Push the two top air vents to face downwards, then with your fingers reach into the vent and pull on the silver-ish-looking trim piece and the top half will pop out.

Then, reach behind the center console (where all the little A/C parts are) and find the metal rods that come off the A/C controls and disconnect them from their ends so that you can pull the whole center console away from the dashboard. (you may need pliers to remove those cables)

To remove the stereo, you will need Ford radio pullers. You gotta use 2 on each side at a time.

Other than that... you're good to go.

Now, if we could ONLY get a wire harness for our car....

Hey, do u have pictures of this being done? it sounds kinda confusing but i too am looking for a way to remove the radio. I just dunno what im gonna do about the harness issue. I checked this website and its decent with upgrading your stereo in the sense that the guide to removing the head unit seems legible but i havent actualy tried it. Although your way sounds a little more complicated, i think your way sounds better. Ill have to try both and try not to break anything, haha, heres the website...

From that website, we need to get a plastic part to fill up the rest of the space rite (to fit under the new deck)? What part is that and where to get it?

The part you are referring to does not exist as of yet.. (that is my site). The pictures show a plastic adapter for the stereo that does not fit. It was temporary. I made my own out of aluminum. I am in the process of making one that has a digital clock and temp gauge (air) in it.. I will post pics on the site once I get it finished. It is not going to be anything special, I just wanted to take on the challenge....

Also note that there is not yet a wiring harness adapter. I was able to take the stock one apart w/out breaking anything and adapt wires to it. That way I can put it all back together again...

you can get a "pocket" sort of thing to fill up the space, it is the "pocket" from the MP3. i just put my system in last weekend and I managed to get a "pocket" from a 2000 protege for free from my dealer (it was sitting around in the back), and it worked great. But the part from the MP3 cost upwards of $90-$100 (plus tax). But any DIN sized peice should work just fine.

hey TheMAN, you mean that you can use the plastic houseing from a 99-00 protege or MP3 in our MP5's? i understand the pocket thing but where do we get a holder for the single din head units? also, can someone pos pics of what they done?

what fills that part up on the MP3, and the '01 proteges that had a single DIN head unit, I am told is a pocket that has a spring loaded cover over it. It holds a few CDs and the like.

I "borrowed" a picture of an MP3 interior and trimmed out the area of interest.

I am looking to get one of these and the folks at www.mazdastuff.com have been very helpful in tracking some info down... they are pricey though (70 bucks) and as mentioned in the thread you might want to visit a scrap yard and see if you can not find one there.... I'll probably just suck it up and order the thing as it will be what I want and I do not have to wait :) Once I get the part number I will post it as well.

now if I could only get a wiring harness adapter... looks like I will need to make my own somehow.

hopefully once this mess is done I can post some pics of the process...

stereo removal

this is actually very simple, simply pop off the two trim strips down either side of the head unit, pop from the top with a pocket knife...
then insert 4 rods made from wire or coat hanger into the 4 round holes this will release the spring clips and you can pull it right out.
as far as pockets and wiring harnesses go i bought the metra pieces and they work great!! had to put some thick foam weather stripping between pocket and my new sony.
