Stock HU and clicking noises

I have a stock 2000 Protege ES with the CD/Tape deck. It seems to work great, BUT it occasionally makes a weird clicking noise that is put out over the speakers. The clicks happen randomly and they occur when the car is off and the key is in Accessory or while driving and with the A/C on or off. Like I said it is completely random. The noise sounds like 3 clicks very close together. "click click click", but only over the course of about 1/2 second or so.

I have brought it to the dealer 3 times for this and they replaced the HU twice. They have no idea about it and niether do I. It is still under warranty and the car has only 12000 miles.

Anyone have any ideas that I might be able to do to fix this, the dealer has about given up and they can't duplicate the problem because it is so random and infrequent?

Not to be a moron, but do you have your cell phone anywhere near the radio? My cell phone makes the radio do weird things when they are too close together...

cell phone

Yeah, that was a thought we had too, but I have tried it with and without the cell phone. Thanks for the suggestion though, I wish it was that simple.
