Speakers pop when amp is turned on
 

I just installed an Alpine MRP-F200 amp under the passenger seat. When I turn the radio on the speakers pop. Also when I turn it off it makes a weird noise. Kinda like SHHHP.

Is this a ground problem. Right now the ground is on a bolt under the rear of the center console. I scraped the paint off around the bolt to make sure it made good contact. I don't know what else it could be.

to fix the problem you will need to have the remote turn on lead on a seperate switch, and once the Hu is turned on a playing, then switch on the amp. more and more amps are coming with a built-in delay so when it recieves the power, it will take a sec to turn on so it won't pop. are you runing the the stock HU?? on a side note, when turning audio equipment on, the amps are the last thing turned on, in any circumstance, wether it be car audio, home audio, a recording studio, live concerts. and the amp is the first thing ur turn off as well.

mine does the exact same thing..... same amp..... on the stock HU.

does the hu turn on the amp through the speaker inputs???
or do you still have to run a remote turon??

I have the stock HU and the remote turn on lead is spliced into the switched power from the stock harness.

Is there something I can hook up to the turn on wire that will delay the turn on instead of having to manually switch it on every time?

Can this cause any damage to the amp or speakers?

it can cause damage to the speakers, but thats only if you keep doing it for a while. see if you can find some sorta digital switch, like one used for foglight wiring that has a on/off light so when you turn off the car, the amp goes off but then you have to push the button again for them to come back on, but as far as just putting in a delay, i couldn't asnwer that

I would send "theMAN" a PM regarding this - he seems to have lots of experince in using relays and such. The use of a relay might be able to solve your problem.

What is happening is that your amp is on whenever the car is on, even if the radio is not. Then when you turn on the radio, you get the pop. If the amp could be wired to turn on AFTER the radio, you shouldn't have this issue.

I believe I have read about add-on delay circuits, which can solve this.

But a much simpler method is splice a switch into the remote lead to the amp. Then you can switch it on after the radio is already powered up. I have one installed to my sub amp, so I can shut it down completely for listening to the radio, talk stations, AM, news, etc. A simple $1.99 appliance switch from the hardware store:

hey guys Directed electronics makes a peice for this
Its called a remote Power adapter Part # 55000
It hooks up to the speaker leads and turns the amp on when it sees voltage.

Just go into any Directed Audio, Or Viper Audio Dealer and tell them the part # if they don't have stock ask them to order it. It retails for about $30 Cdn.

If they don't believe that the part exists tell them it is on page 32 of catalog 20
