Speaker Installation help!
 

Hey people, my friend recently just gave me 4 speakers and tweeters too, and i just have some questions.....

he gave me 5.25" alpine speakers, and 6x8 pioneer speakers and tweeters....

i was wondering if there is any way to install them without getting adapter kits?

i really feel like installing them myself tonight, but i'm clueless for audio installs....

just wondering if anyone can give me some pointers or anything...?

and i was planning on putting the alpines up front and the pioneer's in the back, how does that sound?

whoops, i forgot to add that i would like to keep things as simple as possible, don't want to cut new holes or anything .

what kinda car do you have?

if its a pro5 then you need to have the 6x8's in the front
and the 5¼ in the back

i had an install thread a long time ago.. should be able to find it useing the "search" button

the 6x8's should fit right in perfecty, and the alpines...... well.. you will have to do some creative tinkering becuase mazda likes to use gay ass 6.5" templates with only 3 holes in an equalateral triangular fashion. when i started my speaker install i didn't know what the hell i was doing but i managed.. its easy. (this is all asuming you have a pro5)

anyone else, feel free to add your input :)

the speakers should sound fine in that configuration....seeing as how you don't REALLY get much out of the rear speakers anyway....you mainly hear the fronts.....

once you go in to change the speakers....just pay CLOSE ATTENTION as to which wire on your STOCK speakers is attached to the + and - then reattach them properly to the new speakers as you reinstall them into the doors.

wow, the speaker install took much longer than expected. me and a buddy only got one side finished, and it's not even totally done yet.

the 6x8's fit in the front no problem.... but we couldn't use the stock harness from the car so i had to cut it off and just tape the wires together. :(

i will most likely be soldering the wires the next time i finish up, that's suggested right guys?

also can anyone point me in the direction of a speaker adapter bracket i can use to mount the 5.25"s in the back? i would like it so i don't have to drill any holes in the door, just wondering if there's a product out there that works since i hear lot's of bad stuff about the 3 screw system in the back. :(

I'm in the middle of installing new speakers, myself. I wouldn't bother with an adapter. A lot of the guys here cut up the original rear stock speakers and used the outer ring as an adapter. This seems to work well.

OTOH, I just put 6.5's in the back, and I just drilled holes and used sheet metal screws to mout my speakers. It works perfectly fine, and was IMO the easiest way of mounting them. I know some are squeamish about drilling, but it's pretty simple and very effective.

here is what I did....insted of drilling new holes in the DOOR, I drilled new holes in the ring of the SPEAKER...then just used the stock screws and screwed them back into he same little plastic pieces in the door.

PIECE of CAKE...

just be really careful with the drill...and ensure you get all the little metal shavings off.

thanks for the tips people, but i really am a audio noob and would like this to be as easy as possible. I wouldn't mind shelling out some money to get the adapters, but are there any out that would be able to do that?

i havent worked on the p5 audio system my self yet (and have owned it over a year now...) but i assume if you have the time you could just make your own braket :D

found the brackets!! they are the same as the scosche SAF7 if i remember correctly, but they are made by metra.

anyways, i'm still not done installing yet, and does anyone know of an easy trick to take off the door handles for the back?? i've looked around and i don't recall a specific way... maybe someone can help me out! i already broke a clip :(

oh and another question, the 5.25's sound really really weak in the back, is this supposed to happen? compared to the front speakers it's like night and day :(

another question i have is about the tweeters, i'm getting two different opinions, one is telling me that i should get get bass blockers (high pass filters) for the tweeters, and another one tells me that it's not needed.....

so what should i do? how much do the bass blockers run and is it really important?

the deck is a panasonic 501 and i can set the speaker bass to 0db, but does that work the same way?

I would get bass blockers for those tweeters ,, really they usually come with the set, with my car , they came with the set,... I had a friend that did not use them and totally blew out his speakers ,,, sad move....
install them they can't hurt and only take a second or two to do ... what is an extra second or two ....
and to bolt down the box you should make sure that you won't be drilling under anything under the car .... there are other options for securing a box, like velcro on the bottom of the box and on the carpet...
