speaker change in front door

I tried asking this in audio but no one answered my question so i hoped maybe in here since its specific to second gen, i think, i might get an answer. The front speakers i have been told are 5x7 a friend of mine is offering to give me a pair of infinit speakers 100 W for $50 but they are round 5 1/4 i know you can get adapters to fit round speakers in oval slots but will i still be able to do it with the 1/4 inch difference? Also does any one know the size of the tweeter that goes in our front door? i do'nt have one but would like to install one.

Get some speaker adapters from Scosche. I think SA68 would fit, but ask to be sure.

bruce, i already posted this in audio once and never got a response.

doggie, thanks for the info so even they are 5x7 the adapter will let it fit 5.25 rounds?

Yeah, it's basically a piece of plastic that can fit in the 5x7 or 6x8 (almost the same thing) speaker hole in the door. Then just a hole drilled out in the middle of the plastic to fit the 5-1/4" speaker. So you mount the round speaker on the plate, then mount the speaker + plate on the door.

I've done it with my P5 (we have 5x7s), but if you're speakers are also 5x7s, I don't see why it shouldn't work. Well, maybe mounting depths are different.

i'm sorry bro, I mean no offense by it , but I have to move it .. cause then the other moderators will feal I am not doing my job. I did leave the redirect so you can always find it again ...

Also the front door speakers for the 2nd protege you have are 5 1/4 you can get a set of speakers from Crutchfield.com , and they will give you an adapter to mount the speaker to the weird ass mounting that mazda offers . that is why i like them , ..... I would say that is your best bet , cause they know every car from back to front and they have excellent customer service bro ....

get a good set of 6x9's for the back also

so we don't have 5x7s in the front we already have 5 1/4s? do i need a adaptor for any after market speakers? cause my friend has some infinitis he is going to sell me, will they not fit without the special adaptor?

A tip when mounting the speakers to the car.

I put some plain old window putty, the flexable kind
that doesnt dry under between the speaker frame and the car.
It results in better bass response and also keeps the speaker
from falling out of mazda's slot style mounting arangement.
It eliminates any speaker rattle as well. Learned this
trick from Home Speaker Building ages ago. It works
well in an automotive application.

The speakers I have are 6 1/2 JBL's, sweet as can be
and some Blaupunkt 3-way's for the rear.

I made adapters for a 61/2 JL audio XR woofer, it can easily be modified to also include a tweeter. all you need is a jig saw and a steady hand, although to be honest I used a router.

Thanks for the reply.

Wouldn't you know it, right when I asked the question, I ended up trying a search that worked all right. I ordered them.

(for the record I deleted my post that asked where to get the adapters, once I found them)
