Small Dents/Dings
 

Ok yesterday I went around my car and looked and I had three small dents and dings. They're honestly no bigger than 2-2.5cm in diameter and probably less than half a cm deep. Is there any methods I can use to fix this? I want to try and fix it before I get a paint job because I'm not going to pay their outrageous prices to get a few small dings fixed. I also have a scratch on my trunk. It's about 4-5 inches long and deep enough so that theres rust on it. Should I get this fixed before I get a paint job or should I let them fix it (Earl Scheib)? These are just small dents/dings that I want to fix without having to drill holes in my car or something. Thanks.

these days they have whats called paintless dent repair. Basically they just suction cup the dents out without ruining your finish. Cost is pretty reasonable, I've seen it advetised for as little as $50 in the Toronto area. They can take out a dent the size of a baketball fairly easy. Usually the charge perdent or per panel. ie $75 to do a door panel no matter how many dents or $15-$100 per dent depending on size.

The sratch sounds too deep to do anthing but take it to a body shop and have them fix it.

I have the same sort of dents all over too. I'm going to get them suctioned out...it's really pretty reasonably priced.

Can I get them out myself? I mean they're really tiny, I wouldn't even want to pay $15 for each one. I'd rather just get a tool or something and do it that way so I can have it for future dings. What kind of tools are there to do it by yourself?

I work at Adance Auto parts and i saw a dent sucker there. If you have one near you they will have it. Sorry i don't remember the price :p

The little suction dent puller shouldnt be that much though , I seen on tv the other day that they give u a kit which is or it looks like a hot glue gun, and suction cups.... looked impressing on how it works... it was for $29.95 <--- you know how these tv ads are - "buy it now and get this free gift" or "call now, well cut the payment from $95.95 to 45.95" lol their prices always end in .95 or somethin... lol


But the kit looks like it would work for big dents and medium size ones......

I owned a '96 Acura Integra about 2 years ago. My friend owned a dentless car repair service in which he did this type of work. He didn't use the suction system you see advertised alot on TV, rather, he would get behind the dent with specially bent tools, etc. He'd 'push' the dent from behind.

This push from behind method means you may have to drill holes in the door jams, or other similar locations depending on where the dents are located. You then seal the hole with a black grommet or something similar.

He did outstanding work and it looked great when finished.

Forget that. I don't trust that thing at all. I'd rather just save up my money and have it professionally done when I get my paint job.

dings are a bitch there is really no way to pull them out.dents are another story you can pull them out with a dent puller.the only way to remove dings is to bondo but that fucks up your pant your best bet is to take you panal of you door and use a rubber mallet but some time there is no way to get to them so you have to bondo.your getting a paint job anyway just wait till you get the money then bondo those dam dings .if you need some tips on bondo i can help.peace;)

yeah i have some too i was thinking of just finding a better trunk for mine and living with the door dings no sense pulling a few dings and having it happen again i also wanna get a carbon fiber hood since my hood has a couple dings on it anyone know where i can get one ??....Jon

If you're going to eventually paint the car, have the body shop throw in the ding repairs. They'll usually do it for you. The real deal paintless dent removal tools are bent metal rods that you push the dent out from behind the door panel. I have a set myself, and they work great. It takes a lot of practice to perfect, but the results are excellent. Forget about those things you see on TV. You have to "glue" the tool to the car and scrape it off when you're done. Chances are, the metal will form the dent after a while if you try to suck it out.
