short shifter

hey guys, i've been looking through the forums and the protege FAQ and am having trouble finding info on 1st gen short shifters.

help pls? i read threads with ppl claiming mp3 shifters and kartboy shifters, but where do i buy them?

and i need more info!

The way I understand it is that any short shifter from any year should work in your car. You can get them from corksport. The kartboy can be bought here As for the MP3 shifter you would probably have to get one from a MP3 owner who has upgraded or from a junkyard.

cool thanks for the info. i went to kartboy and saw the product.

my question is, do i need to buy the bushings and the knob too?

will my stock shift knob fit on the kartboy?
what exactly are those bushings for?

hey i also found a twm shifter for proteges. that will work too?

The Kartboy will work fine with all your stock Protege hardware and bushings. But it is a good idea to get new ones while your at it. Dunno about the shift knob though, i've always had an aftermarket...

Never heard of TWM...

the stock knob will work with the kartboy shifter. i have had mine for a few months and love it. it's very short and the throws feel very nice and direct. i highly recommend the kartboy.
