shift knob not fitting on car

i recently got a shift knob that is for my automatic tranny protege, and i was able to take out my old shift knob, but the thing is, is that the bar that comes up to shift, has 2 screw holes in a straight line, but, the new shift knob has 3 holes all around. how can i get this shift knob to fit?

i think i have 2 choices to choose from. either to mark the places where the 3 holes are, then drill a hole through those places and then have it fit. or, i can find some kind of rubber/plastic adaptor thing that i can fit over the stick, then have the knob fit over it very tight so it doesnt move later on. i dont really know what i should do. any of you have ideas? any other options i have? thanks!

not familiar with auto sticks but if hte problem is you cant tighten the knob down tight enough then get some electrical tape and wrap it around the stick really tightly because it gets soft when warm and screw the knob on the tape. bascially just making the stick thicker.

mmm, that may work, but the thing is that the knob does not screw down onto the stick. the knob goes onto the stick, then you have to screw in a few screws horizontally into the stick. thanks for the suggestion ^^

oooh, nevermind! i got it, i didnt know the screws are supposed to just bolt onto the existing stick. i thought it had to go through another screw hole. hehe, thanks for the help though, i will take your advise! thx

well, you can do one of 2 things. you can get a shift knob that has the overdrive button built in with it (which i have only seen one or two kinds, and kinda ugly if u ask me), or get any other shift knob. with the overdrive button, you can cut the wire (make sure that the negative end of the battery is off), and go to a radioshack or any electronics store and buy a switch. you can then rewire the overdrive button to the switch. good luck
