Self Tinting

I recently found out that 70% tint is the limit where I live. And the best price on tinting around here is $200-230. So I thought maybe I could tint myself. That way if I have to take it off I won't be out $200. I have seen some self tint jobs that were nice and some that were crap. So how hard is it? If I try it I will take my time and try to do it nicely. I'm guessing it will take me at least an hour per window.

Metallicised(sp) tint is the kind that won't purple right?

if your gonna do it yourself, make sure you have a sharp knife, glass cleaner that foam stuff works great, a straight squegee, a straight edge, and a spray bottle adjustable mist, and a blow dryer that can heat up quickly.

Other then that its all about technique.
Spray it on wet, adjust the tint, heat the tint around the top edges and then squegee off the excess water.

When I bought my P5 it came with tint but it started to bubble (crappy install). If I had done this myself and it started to go to crap, I would have had to eat it, as it was I took it back to the dealer and he redid it at no cost to me. That gurantee is worth something I think.

I am gonna try a window and see how it turns out. I would have it installed but if a cop doesn't like it I just wasted 230 dollars. If I do it myself it might end up bubbling but it might not. I plan on taking all the time needed to do it the best I can. And if it does get messed up I will have only lost like $50.

I did the back driver side window. It looks good. The 1st try ended up bad but the seconds try I decided to take off the door panel and it made a huge difference. It took me about 4 hours to do that window.

After that I tried the little window on the back door. Now that is hard and I dont know how or if I am going to do it. I might just end up having it done if I can't get that little window to look right. Plus the rear window looks like it woud be really hard.

**EDIT**
I got the little window done. But I am now thinking more about having it done. In Alaska tint is legal if you have a perscription from a doctor. I am going to stop by my optomotrist(sp) and see about getting one. Is it hard to get one? I'm not sure if they will give me one. They will probably see a 19 year old kid trying to get away with tinting his windows. So since my moms name is on the title I might try and talk her into going in there.
