Seat belt pads? Stonegard?

Hey everyone.....this is one of my first posts....I've had my P5 about 3 weeks now and just thought of a couple questions while I was reading posts.
First, due to all the problems people seem to be having with paint chipping etc......and given that I don't want a regular black bra on my car.....has anyone gotten one of those clear things...Stonegard I think they're called? I'm curious of the results. Otherwise, I've saw on a website a colored bra...to match the car...but it looked like it was a two piece deal...arent' most bras one piece?
Second, I want to get shoulder pads for my seatbelts. I saw mazdaspeed ones on some website...are there any other mazda related ones available that anyone knows about. I thought someone had "powered by Mazda" ones....but I've not seen them.
Thanks,
Sharon

I also thought about getting Stongard but decided to go with the stock Mazda Bra. Someone else said they saw the Stongard product installed on a Protege and it looked obvious that it was on. He said it almost looked like something was wrong with the paint. I guess it's not invisible like they say it is. But maybe someone else has more experience with it. I think it's also several hundred dollars for full front end coverage.

The stock Mazda Bra fits like a glove. It looks better than I thought it would. The only thing I might do is replace the hood portion of the bra with a magnetic bra. The stock one has a trailing edge that doesn't lay real flat because of the seam on it's egde. Bra's are usually in two pieces. One for the hood and one for the front bumper/grill area. If it was one piece, you would have to remove the bra just to open your hood. The only thing with a bra that you must remember is that it has to be removed and allowed to dry if it gets wet. Otherwise you risk trapped moisture causing the paint to cloud. A small price to pay but it beats having chips all over the front end.

js1,
thanks for the info....what color is your P5? I personally just don't like the look of bra's on cars too much....but it depends on the car, the color and such as well.......and to each his own. Guess I'll have to give it some thought....I just don't want it detracting from the look of the car.

Hi Sharon

I have the clear stone guard on my P5 and I think it looks great. You barely see it and from what I have heard about those bras scratching the paint I am not too crazy about that option. You have to be really close to see it and I don't think it makes tha paint look funny. Most people who see it think it is great plus it sure beats all of those chips showing the black primer underneath.

If you go to the regional section of this board and go to Western Canada you can see pics of my P5. It is in the posts regarding clubs/meets in Edmonton. My car is the last one on the right.

Cheers
Chris

I have the powered by Mazda belt pads and they look good. The only problem is that they are slightly too long for the belt when it is in the stored position(easily overlooked though) and they are really comfortable:D

Thanks Chris....I will check it out. How much did it cost my I ask?

Zulu,
where did you get the belt pads? Any pix?

is there somewhere i can see what these seatbelt pads look like? I've seen the mazdaspeed ones......they're not the same are they?

shayshay June-6th-2002 12:26 AM

Chris,
Checked out tha pics.....I can't see anything as far as the bra......car looks nice!
So did you get the full one? or just on the hood? Guess it wouldn't do any good to get tha price you paid since you're up in Canada.
thanks again,

1fatEs June-6th-2002 12:36 AM

No there not the same....if no one post a pic any time soon then I will as soon as I get them this weekend

Hi Sharon

Hmmm, I guess it is difficult to see the Stoneguard which is probably what you want anyway. Basically I like it as I have seen another yellow P5 without any protection and it is pretty chipped on the hood.

I can try and take a pic this weekend and post here. As for the price, it varies depending on the dealer. I got it done when I bought the car as that way if anything goes wrong they will fix it. In fact I was not happy when they first put it on and they replaced it and now it is much better.

Cheers
Chris

chris,
Yeah that's what I meant...that at least in those pix it's not noticeable. So you got it jus on the hood? What went wrong with the first try by the way?

1fatEs..
Thanks....
