'Rusting' Questions

I'm just curious to know how quickly and how serious rust on the undercarriage of the mazdas will buildup. My car originally came from down east (spent a couple years in Ontario) before making it out to the praries where I am. There is rust on components under the car, but nothing on the body yet. How many guys have rust already forming under the car on the frame and stuff? Is it just corrosion that we cant get away from? Mine is an 03 P5, with 65000kms. Also, there are a couple dings/scrapes on the front and rear bumper, a couple around the wheel well, and one on the door where it looks like a stone got thrown up into the body, should I be getting those filled and painted asap??

I'm in gulf-coast florida, and I have rusty hardware underneath and in the engine compartment. There's no rust on the body. (knock wood). I bought my car used about a year ago, so I don't know where it spent its first couple years.

i hear that regular washing of the undercarriage helps prevent rust. also undercoating can help too. some local shops can do that and claim a 20% reduction in road noise which is nice as well. my car has 30k miles and no issues w/ rust or anything like that. i think rust warranty is unlimited miles and 60k miles so if it looks serious maybe you can bring it in?
