Rotary Engine in a Protegé
I think it is possible to put an RX-7 engine into my 1991 Protegé, but I don’t know exactly how to go about it. I wanted to restore an old RX-7 FC engine and change the drive train to FR instead of FF. I love my Protegé; ‘neesan is my first car, and I would love to turn her into a drift machine. I would be very grateful if I could get any advice or help with this project. It is still only in the dream stage, but I still want to do it. I think I'll call it the RX-P.

it'll remain in the dream stage my friend. All I will say (and all that matters is this)
If you don't know what all is involved with a project of this magnitude you're best to leave it alone. You will have SO much money invested in a car thats worth only a few hundred to begin with. Welcome to the forum.....please make sure to post threads in the correct sections. |
here in Puerto Rico we have a drag Protege 5 with a 3 rotor engine. once again is a race car but is a Protege with a rotary engine.....

isnt that the one with the tube frame chassis ??? that's hardly a protege

With enough time and money, anything's possible.
Here's a couple interesting vids: http://www.msprotege.com/members/Natey/Rotary_323.wmv (2megs) http://www.msprotege.com/members/Nat...503_isis_m.wmv (650k) |
There's a rotary P5 in Australia, but honestly a project of this magnitude would probably cost at least $20,000. It's possible, but I think you'd be happier just finding components for an AWD first gen and bolting them on, then slap a BP in there and turbo it.

Not a bad idea...but really you would want the J-spec AWD parts. which cost a pretty penny too...the North American AWD protege's had a really weak AWD system...any REAL power would break it.... |
the second video of EGGYNATEY post is the one i was talking. And by the way those two videos are from Puerto Rico....
