Removing the window lever
 

Hi. I have DX like most of you, and I just got new front speakers, and I know what step to use to take the panel off, but I do not know if I need a special tool, or if there is a certain way, the window lever can be taken off. Thanks.

The lever can be removed, but it is not necessary.

When removing your door panel, just carefully pop the entire handle assembly through the panel, so it stays with the door, and connected to the latch mechanism.

It'll require a little twisting, and maybe some pushing to pop it through, but it's no big deal.

If you really NEED to remove the handle, I might still have the pics from when I did mine a while back (to paint them). It's also very simple, but just not necessary if the door panel is all you want to remove.

HH - I think he is talking about the window crank, not the door handle (don't think he has power windows ;))

I haven't seen the Protege window crank, so I don't know what type they use. Some cars have a clip on type of deal that requires a special tool (that would be available from a Pep Boys or somthing like it), others (like my old VW) have a cover that comes off and then a regular screw or bolt holding the handle on.

Make sure you note the position of the cranks before you remove them, or when you put them back on, you will be saying to yourself 'how were they before? And why can't I get them the same from side to side?' :cool:

Sorry - didn't read the post properly - doh. It even says "window lever".

But at least he now knows how to get the door panel off a Pro with power windows - just in case. ;).

I used a tool from Pep Boys that is designed to remove the crank. You could actually do it with a screwdriver though. Just slide the tool in (no jokes please) and push out and unclip the clip. And you're done.

much easier way to do it..ive had mine of plenty of times...take a piece of thin cloth and pull it around the crank and pull on each end sliding it back and forth...the cloth will catch on the horseshoe clip and pull it free....sounds ghetto but actually thats how they do it at radio install shops!!!!
