Rattling noise behind license plate
 

hi all,

i just installed my first amp and subs.

there were no noticeable vibrations outside of car until i cranked up the volume. i opened my trunk and there is no vibrating noises. as soon as i close my trunk there is a rattle behind the license plate area (not the license plate itself, but behind that).

i went to a car audio shop and picked up some lightning audio type dynamat. it didnt seem to help anything...

does anyone know a good effective way to get rid of the buzzing noise behind the license plate area.

Had this problem with my escort when i had my system in it. For me the rattling was actually a loose washer on one of the bolts holding the trunk in place. Tightened it up and the rattle was gone.

My licence plate rattled too, but i didn't care about that as it was outside the car...

This is super easy to remedy. I just finished installing my system yesterday. And I was suprised at how little the Juggalo Wagon rattled for what I put in it. ANyway the only discernable rattle I found with the car all closed up and the stereo craked was the license plate area as well. First I simply lined the back of the plate itself with a thin foam layer (maybe a 1/4" thick). That fix the plate to the plate holder rattle. BUt then the plate holder itself was banging up against the car. SO I took it off and lined the holder as well. Now it bumps with no real noticeable rattle outside of the car. I mean there are minor vibrations, but nothing that would make you think the car is going to fall apart. And that's not too bad coming from a 145+ db setup.

I had no real noticeable rattle at first also but after 3 months of pounding out the dbs I can hear one now. Hope its not serious. I do know that in our cars the plate older is only secured by 2 bolts. that makes it rattle a lot.

I gots a three 10" JL Audio W3's with a Phoenix Gold MPS2500 runnin em at 1 ohm mono. It was on an Audio Control meter briefly where I hit 145.3 on my first run of just hooking the shit up and messin with the gains a little ( I had been in the shop for 7 hours and just wantd to get the hell outta there it was so hot, or I woulda spent more time on it). I still have quite a bit of dialing to do on my EQ in order to get the perfect levels I want. With this setup in my eclipse I hit 147.6, so I'm pretty close to my previous limit. Anyway I'm happy with it, I like the image better in my Juggalo Wagon than in my eclipse anyway.

did you take off the whole rear deck then? if so, what is there instead?
also...... how many layers of dynamat did you use on your trunk lid? i am scared to go more than 1 layer cuz i don't want the weight to make it fall down( using brown bread ). trying to track down all my rattles too. do you have a spoiler too or not?

I removed my license plate in the rear and stuck some weather stripping..works great..no more rattles.
