Radio Replacement Question

Hello!

I am brand new to the forums and I have a pretty loaded question from the get go.

I own a 2007 Mazda3 2.0 Automatic.

Yesterday on my way home from work my stereo starting smoking out of the CD insert slot. My display promptly shut off and the trip meter reset. My key fob does not unlock my car and my gas gauge will not move to F after a refill.

I assumed my stereo was fried and I will need to check the fuses. So I bought a salvage radio for $150. I am going to install it over the weekend. After I remove the old radio and insert the new one, is there anything I should be aware of? Is it that easy or will I need to have it programmed to my car?

I'd just like to know before I go ahead and do this. Thanks for your help!

Also, if you think I made the wrong move by assuming the radio is fried then tell me what I SHOULD have done. lol

Thanks again,
Keith

smoke out of the radio i'm pretty sure means it won't work any more, and i'm sure it would have popped a fuse - that would have disabled some of the other systems like you mentiond.

I don't think there's a security code for getting the radio to work, though the dealer would be who to ask if it's not in the owners manual. The radio has some features (not available on the 2.0) that you may be able to enable on the radio, depending what year it came out of. Look up button combinations to enable the trip computer for example.
