i have a whistler daytona model and it sux, but its saved me a shit load of money, but from everything i read if u can afford it get the valentine one, every time a company does a test of detectors it ALWAYS wins

this came up in this thread http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/sho...&threadid=1922 once before.

Opinions vary, but I'll give mine... A Valentine One is pretty much the way to go... yes, they are big and bulky... but when it comes to an RF front end (ie. how good is the receiver) they can not be beat (this is the microwave radio engineer in me talking).

i use the blue series, cornea and retina attached. They only come in pairs, but i guess you could do OK with just one. Although i needed the spectical add-ons for more clarity and more adjustability. Gave it that, classy executive look. So far they work great, i've had them since birth.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I'm very happy with my passport 8500, I couldn't deal with the size of the V1 so I didn't get it.. the passport usually warns me of non-instant on radar about 1/2 a mile ahead around here.. very good real world ka band detection.. I don't go fast enough to even need one most of the time :D

I was waiting for someone to mention the Cobras. I'm using the ESD-6160CS 6-band...I haven't really checked out what Cobra has to offer and where this detector stands relative to the rest, but I got it for free (a friend got a speeding ticket while using it and got fed up and just gave it to me). So yea, someone got nailed while it was being used...of course I'm not sure whether he was just screaming by the cop and didn't have time to stop or whether the detector just sucks, but free is free. Besides, I'm not hitting 90+ mph too often, so I'm not all that worried anyway.

Does someone have the Cobra detector website? I'd like to have a look and see what's going on there.
nsx

I too kinda like the Cobra detectors' looks, but I definitely wouldn't buy it because of them. As others have already said, if you want a REAL functional detector get the Valentine. It's huge compared to the rest of the detectors but at least it'll pick up every cop out there.

Oh yea, so I checked the Cobra detectors and it looks like I've got the crappiest detector around. It's an older model that's not made any more, but it's in the ESD-6xxx series, so it definitely can't be that good. Besides, I found an auction on eBay for the ESD-6160CS going for $10 right now w/ 1 day left...no kidding my friend got nailed.
