Questions/Suggestions on my dilemma!
 

Hey everyone,
My friend just upgraded his system with his new car, and has an extra amp laying around. It is a Rockford Punch 120.2 amp. He gave it to me yesterday for free, as I have hooked him up to down the road. Now I can't decide what to do with it. I have been waiting to amp my speakers for some time now, because they would sound awesome considering I have some pretty good speakers. Should I just amp 2 of them because this is only a 2-channel amp. Can I amp 4 speakers on a 2-channel amp. I didn't think so but I am just getting into the whole audio thing and am not too clear on the whole amping process. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. By the way, my speakers are listed in my sig. if that helps.

By all means - amp the four speakers. Rockford/Fosgates are stable into two ohms (meaning you connect the two Left side speaker positive wires together at the amp and the two negatives. Repeat for the right side).

All you lose is the ability to fade from front to the rear.

Do you have an after market head unit already? If not - get one. You need the low output RCA-type inputs to connect to the amp.

The speaker inputs to the amp will sound lousy (IMHO).

i'd use the RF amp for your subs, swap the Sony over to the mains and then save up to replace the Sony (as you put it, POS)

If the Sony is not 2ohm stable, amp the fronts only for now.

anyways as for amping all 4 yes you can! as long as your amp is 2ohm stereo stable (same as 4ohm mono, infact i think almost every amp can do 2ohm stereo). check out my sound domain page by clicking the www button, as i have done it with a 2ch amp.

Why do you want to fade F/R anyways? stereo is 2ch, the output of the RCA's on your deck is 2ch (white and red RCA), its pointless unless you want to run something like a 5.1 or 6.1 ch surround but you can only take advantage of that if you have a DVD player/decoder

Do you think that the RF amp will be strong enough to power the subs. It is only a 120 watt amp. Just curious because if I wire it to the subs won't that only give it 60 watts per sub, and I know that I need a little more than that.

The RF 120.2 will definitely be too weak for your subs. The JL audio 10w3's take about 250W RMS each, but the 120.2 only puts out 120W RMS @ 4 ohms (bridged) or 60 W RMS X 2 @ 2 Ohms . U'll probably kill your sub pretty quickly that way.

I'd just amp the door speakers with it.

IMO front/Rear fading is more impt in sedans because the rear speakers are right behind the rear passenger's head/ear. This will probably give them a headache if you're driving in the front and want to listen loud. It may not sound loud in front, but when your ear is inches away from the speaker, it gets pretty loud.

I guess the other option is to tell them to get out if they don't like it :D

Anyway, my opinion is that just forget about the RF 120.2. Free doesn't mean that you have to use it :). Sell it on eBay or something and use that money to get a good powerful amp for the subs (like the JBL BP600.1). Use the Sony amp to drive the door speakers.
