Questions on making amp rack
 

In order to get the true dimensions for an amp rack, what do installers use for measuring the curvatures of things like the wheel well and etc.? What is best to mold something to get the angles right for cutting the wood that will be used for an amp rack? Any tricks to the trade?

What I've used before is a stiff wire, kind of like the stuff they make coat hangers from but not as stiff and longer. Just use that and mold it into shape and then trace it on your piece of wood.

right on! thick copper wire works well, I also use hardcast putty, and woodworkers molding copiers.
Most shops also have sets of angle and curves that can be cobbled together to get the angles.
Best on the fly method I have used is wax paper and a exacto knife.
As a hint unless you have done it allot before, are supremely confident in your measurements, or have lots of MDF, cut the curves a little large and then cut down to size in trial and error.
Also, the full set of curves may not be needed except for pride of workmanship. Curves are the difference of time and dollars in nice custom installs....

Try the trunk liner for a template or use a power wire like I did to get the basic shape or curve. I transfered it onto a piece of cardboard. Then I used a compass to scribe an exact curve onto the cardboard and cut out with a utility knife and double checked before cutting any wood.

That's how we do it at our shop. Cardboard templates, and transfer it to the Medite of MDF.
