Questions about stereo equip

I just bought a 2000 Mazda Protege ES. Right now it has the Mazda CD player and tape deck in it. The front speakers are still factory but the back speakers have been replaced with some Pioneers. I'm looking to put a stereo system in that won't add any more weight to the car than I already have to deal with. I'm looking for something that sounds good and good quality. If you know something I could do let me know.

Thanks.

lighter and sounds good?

here's what you do:
1. remove all stereo equipment.
2. replace oem with AEM short ram intake.
3. replace oem exhaust with bosal exhaust.

should sound pretty damn good after that! :D :D

hey you want a good company to buy speakers from, Memphis, though u gotta find an authorized dealer for em. There frickin incredible and quite cheap. I got my set of 6x9's for 100 bucks and tehy are far supepior to the 200 dollar pioneers and sonys, i testted em all toge4ther. When im crusiing peopel ask me like wat size sub do i have and i laugh and am like none, its pure speaker man, sweet as hell.

Violator6802, I'm curious why did you change only the rear speakers and not the front?

Hmm... i guess you spend more time in the back seat eh? ;) (you should also tint your windows if you do) *LOL*

Anyway, I seriously doubt that changing 4 speakers will add much weight that you can actually feel the difference in performance. Like Gro Harlem said, removing the spare tire would lighten up the load much more than changing speakers. If you want to go further, you can get a carbon fiber hood and also a set of lighter alloy wheels. Lastly, you can limit your car to drive with less than 1/2 a tank of gas when you goto the gas station for gas, to lighten up the load.

No offense, but you can forget that idea of "won't be too heavy but you would still be able to hear it about a mile away". There's always a trade-off. :D
