Question on mounting new head unit

Now that I removed the factory CD/Cassette/Radio (and what a bitch that was), I have a question on putting in the new head unit. Usually with most cars you can just slide in the "cage" of the head unit and slide the radio right in, but with the Protege they have to make things difficult. I can see where I could possibly secure without using the "cage" and using the hole in the back of the HU to secure it from the rear and have it almost "resting" on the ugly dash kit, but if the CD player needs to be pulled for repair, it would be a bitch to take it out. How did you guys counteract this problem? I appreciate the advice.

The only thing I can think of is attaching the sleeve to the pocket that fits in to the dash (Metra Kit) because it would be virtually impossible to attach it to the metal bracket behind the radio. What do you guys think? I almost wish that it didn't have the Din and a half size radio like the MP3 or the older Proteges.
