Protege5 antenna on Sedan

I did a search without luck.

Has anyone installed a Protege5 antenna on their sedan? Real functioning antenna, not fake sticker ones.
Would you share the part number and the installation scenario?

I love the slot car look of the centerline antennas.

AH, Bayville. My family lives there. So you went there, and asked to look for one? How much?

well i didnt really go there and ask.

1st of all i went there a while back because they had a gauge cluster for the pro, since i broke the fuel needle b/c of indiglos. so i went there picked it up from a totaled P5.

after a few months, i thought, since i wanted 2 do the P5 antenna conversion, i went back down n got the antenna and base for 29 i think

Did you get to see the wrecked protege 5, or was everything disassembled?

would we need the wires from mazda or can we get the wires from somewhere else?

MarkSpark November-11th-2002 05:27 PM

I spoke with an auto body shop in July. They said they could do it for me, so I'm assuming they would supply the wires.

They are generally amplified antennas, but non amplified ones do exist.
In the case of the P5 I am pretty certain that the antenna is a passive one. I have traced the cable back from the antenna all the way to the HU and there is no amplifier in series with the install, and none of the base of the antenna.

MarkSpark November-14th-2002 02:24 PM

Hey BL, what are you gonna do about the old antenna base...is it even painted underneath it?

You're right - p5 antennas are NOT powered..
