Protege BMW light mods
 

So far I've been looking at wholesale sites, trying to find lights that will fit on the protege with no luck. Does anyone know if the 3 series BMW headlights will fit on a protege? I'll be measuring my friend's tomorrow but I saw some pictures of them online and they look similar but I don't think they will match exactly (screw points are in different spots and it looks like the BMW ones go in differently). Or is there a way to take off the white plastic part of the headlight on the mazda? If that's possible, then I can just take that part in to a glass shop and have it replicated but made out of glass. Then I can put the little BMW circle things inside and then I'll have BMW lights. So can someone tell me if taking that clear white part off is possible? You could also use this same technique for the corner lights.. taking off the orange part and getting a glass replica.

bah.. I might just forget all this junk and just live with the way my mazda is. but if someone answers my questions we could all figure out how to put BMW lights on our cars.

Just something to think about....GLASS....you want to have custom covers made out of glass....even if it were safty glass....what are you going to do the first time it picks up a rock and its gone.......not to mention your light dispersion will go to crap shining through a busted cover.....THEN there is the expense of haveing another custom cover made......sounds pretty expensive to me....even if they did fit. but hey....its your money.:bt:

from what BMW model will the lights fit a first gen pro ?

I found a H.I.D. Upgrade for cars w/ headlight bulbs that are 9004 in size for $98 (sold as a kit/set)!

OH YEAH.. GRO.... I like the idea of the M3 headlights! TOO bad I have a 94pro cuz it would take too much work to make that fit!

I think that $98 is a great price, but I have had no previous experience with that website and have no ideia of the quality of the products they sell.........

I need more info on that BMW headlight conversion, because I am really interested in doing it.......if not I will be definitely willing to pay $ 98 for a HID upgrade.......

That is SUPER Cheap! I've always wanted to get HID for my Pro, but I figured it was close to $1000 to get a conversion done, but for $98!?!? For some details, I took a real good look into this, and it is a Original Real HID Lighting System by Philips.

I've got a '99 Protege, that takes H4 lights, and they have the kit for the H4's, so it will work! I'm super temped to get this!! Is anyone getting this for their car? I'd love to know how it works? Its a DIY kit.

I was thinking of putting p5 headlights on my protege , but I figure getting the fenders done and all that will be to expensive

I just looked at it, it's NOT a real High-Intensity Discharge kit, it's just high-powered halogen kit with what looks like a pair of ballasts.

Probably more similar to the Catz Zeta kit, but definitely not real HID...

theres no way ur getting HID for 98 dollars, its just not possible

OK so they aren't real H.I.D. ... they are better than the crappy head lights I have now:p I rather spend $98 instead of buying new bulbs every so often since 9004's are so crappy:the finge :the finge

the BMW lights WILL fit, i measured and compared, even the corner lamps will fit, but yes some small body work is needed for the corner lamps, but i mean SMALL.

another VERY IMPORTANT thing to remember when looking at headlight conversions is the angle of both the light beam and the lamp itself. The BMW lights are well suited as the front end of the car is similarly flat, like our G1 Pros. Other cars that have more of an arced front end, will be a total nightmare to align properly, not to mention the whole project could be a big watse of time , money and enegy to find out the beam pattern isn't all that much better...sure they may look good, but who cares if you can't see any better.

If you want looks, get anything that remotely fits...if you want to see better, (IMHO) just get the J-Spec headlights (H3) and call it a day. No hassle, no fuss. plug and play!!!

Just wondering but is it possible to remove the fronts of the light housings? if so why not have a special cover made from a material other than glass? can it be done and have good results?
