Protege 5 Car Audio

Anybody have any tips or ideas about installing a sound system into a Protege-5?
Did anyone run into any problems with install? (rattles, vibrations, electrical...)
I want to use MB Quarts or JL Audio for front stage. What size will fit into the front doors? Tweeter location ( any installation possible in kick panels? Qforms...) I have PGOLD EQ, X/O and a Soundstream 5 ch amp that all needs to be mounted somewhere. ANY SUGGESTIONS? Also I need to be able to still have access to spare and wanted a removable sub box. Please help, I need some advice

My first piece of advise... hit the Caps Lock key one more time and leave it off...

My second piece of advice... Stop listening to your music so gaddamn loud and you won't have to be shouting at us.

First, your front speakers are 5x7.... not sure on the rear.

Tweeter mount.... that triangle piece on ur door panel opposite the side view mirrors.

Mounts for equipment... back of rear seats...place ur amps there too and just run speaker wire to the box so you can just unclip it.

The box, please use L-brackets or sumthin to hold it down --they arent nice when they become projectiles if you get into an accident. A few screws wont hurt ya if you need to remove it.

As for systems tho, check out my gf's in her P5....

I put 6x8s in the front and 6 and 1/2s seperatesin the rear with the tweaters pointing forward, just used a hole saw and used the swivel mounts. I have heard of putting 6 and 1/2s in the front but you neen some plates for them. The biggest tip, I know it is a pain but run new speaker wire! the crap they give you is 22awg I ran 12awg and 16awg. you can drill the holes under the step plates of the doors and take out the black plugs in the side of the doors to run you wire trough. I put my amps under the seats. My sub is in an enclosure in the back so I just bought the cargonet to keep it stationary.

Do you have any more pics of your car install? IN particular I'm interested in the end look of your rewiring. I'm not familiar with a step plate so I don't know what you mean there. I imagine you run the new wiring through the same black tubing(between door and body) as the stock wire.
This is definately something I will be getting done. I may just pay for a car audio place to do it though. Easier for me and it will be done properly with a guarantee.:D

Not yet I have not had time to post them. The boot that the existing wire goes through can not be used without destroying the wiring harness. The door step is that plastic piece so you don't scratch the paint with your feet when you get in and out. Anyway I drilled a hole under them and ran the wire under there too. It comes out near the bottom hinge from under the plastic piece. I just covered the wire in wire loom. It looks great I will try to get the pictures done this weekend.

Thanks for the tips, I appreciate it.

I personally would not put the tweets up in that trinalge piece someone said earlier. I put MB Quart 6 1/2" woofers in all of the doors, along with their componet tweeters, but I mounted the tweeters very close to where the 6 1/2's are installed, it creates a better sound image to keep them close rather than spread that range of frequencies very far apart from one another.

Im really intrested in putting 6.5's up front rather than 5x7's. Is there any certain mod i have to do to make them fit? Sweedenhouse, mind on enlightening me on how you did this? also, how do u like the MB Quarts? im thinking about getting them but i heard theyre not good unless powered by an amp.

Im not gonna get an amp for my highs until i get subs which will be a while. are they ok with just a head unit?

Shawn, is that a picture of your car on the left with the three subs in the trunk? if so do you have anymore pics of your install?

ya that's my ride. I didn't do the install. i got a shop to do it. Some people say one should always install themselves but I wanted it to be done right and if something goes wrong, I can just bring it in and they'll fix it for nothing. This spring I'm going to take many pictures of it. I'll remove the amp rack cover and try to get lots of angles. It's a pretty simple setup really. A box divided into 3 1 ft cubed volumes, with a rack in front. I'll get pics eventually, but no time too soon. We are getting temperatures around -25 degrees Celcius right now, too cold.

Shawn,
I don't blame you for not taking pictures in -25`weather. I live in Florida where it's in 80`s. Anyway what did you use up front?speakers, size, where did you mount the tweats? Did you change the rear speakers? Do you still have use of your spare or did you dump it for your amp rack?:blue:
