I am not all that familiar with the newer Kenwoods like the one in your MazdaSpeed Protege, but I am assuming you checked all connections to the subwoofer, and everything was fine. Is there a way of controlling your subwoofer via your head unit and maybe the settings were adjusted or your subwoofer turned off entirely from the head unit? I would look through the owner's manual and tinker with the head unit and see if some how the subwoofer was adjusted mistakingly. There is a chance that it could be blown, but I would look at this first. If you have no such luck, I would swing by the dealership and go to the service dept. and see if some one can walk out with you to see if it is a simple fix or if you need to schedule an appointment with them. Good luck. You got a nice car there! I love my ES and drooled when I found out all of the MazdaSpeed performance enhancements it came with. It has a nice sound system too! I wonder if Mazda will come out with a P5 version of it. That would be a hit!

Try resetting the radio first... That *might* do the trick...

Take it back to Mr. Dealership. For the 15+K you have invested, you should use the warrenty privilage. They probably won't know jack about the system per se, but hey they may just replace the whole system.
My stock Msp System in now laying in the garage and the interior is removed for sound deading and cabling.
Good luck and make sure you let us all know what the solution turns out to be please!

I think I'm gonna have ta take it back to the dealership.. I checked the fuse, resetted the radio & all of that & still not working.. All new things got bugs i guess.. My dealer told me when i got the car he knew nothing about the system, haha... So we'll see next week what the answer will be... 'Til then....

Strange how your sound system died... Hopefully your dealer will quickly fix it. Good luck and let us know what went wrong!

kenwood has very good quality products. Mostlikly they will do a recall on the parts through warranty and replace ur stuff. really no big deal. Id advise everone who has a Dealer warranty on their car to ALWAYS goto the dealer first, if u have a problem. Its basically FREE, and u get whatever u need erplaced. Easiest thing in the world!

Allright - sorry to possibly sound like an ass here, but have you:

Checked the fader control to make sure it is not all the way to the front? This would cause the rear speakers not to play, of course.

And:

Have you read the manual for the deck? I believe most Kenwoods with a sub out have a subwoofer mute option. This may be turned on, defeating the subwoofer. RTFM and find out how to check the status of the sub mute.

Have you checked to see if the amp is even powered up? I think there should be a light on the amplifier somewhere that glows if the amp has power.

Best of luck.

SpiderCrew - What did you find out? The answer is to have the subwoofer enclosure (amp speaker and all) replaced as a unit.

I have a Mazdaspeed and had the Kenwood shutoff on me once. I just hit the reset and it came back minus the settings.

time to visit the dealer.

i notice my sub comes on and off sometimes when im bumpin it... i actually replaced that psy 8 and use a 15 but just curious when you checked the fuse on the amp did you check the one on the powerwire under the hood?

OK so here's tha latest on my stuff.. Brought the car to the dealer, but they know nothing about the 'Kenwood" system since it is installed at the factory & not a "mazda" part.. so i am back where i started, nowhere!! The dealer ordered a new sub & when they take the system apart to replace the sub i guess they'll see if it was the speajer, wrong connection or whatever... The amp works & even puts out power(i got that checked) so they're guessin the speaker or wiring... I myself used to install stereo stuff but i don't wanna void my warrannty by goin in there myself.. But this whole dealership thing has been frustrating as all hell.. It's been over 3 weeks now & still shitt!! I got 3 JL audio 10's waitin to be installed bridged but wanna get the original shit fixed first...

thanks for the ideas tho
