Pro Shift Knobs

Now I know tons on people here have and love their Teamvoodoo shift knobs...but I was lookin at the Greddy's today and they got some interesting ones.

One is a "Countershift" knob...weighs 13.5oz(!). How would a heavier knob change your shifts? Cause on the other end on the spectrum they have an ultralight 1oz knob. Without really being able to try them out...does anyone know how either of these would affect shifts?

Also they have the type as M10 P1.25. Is the thread on a Pro 1.25mm?

if it were even possible for you to feel the difference.....with more weight on the top of the shifter you have more momentum as the shifter moves thus making it easier to shift....or quicker...or something.....Personally I don't think in a street application you could or would ever benifit from this....

I think its best if you just get a knob that you like the style and feel of.

as for the threads for the P5....YES they are M10 P 1.25 meaning they are 10mm in diameter and have a thread pitch of 1.25.

I have the Greddy shift knob you are talking about and like it alot, but it is more for the feel and style. The only issue with the style is that has a much smaller bottom than the stock one, so I would suggest getting a new boot becuase the stock one sticks out past the botom of the knob a little. As far as the extra weight helping in speed of shifts, i didn't notice that major of an increase, but the knob felt alot better in my hand. I would suggest it, to me it looks alot better than the voodoo knob, but to each his own.

Mass of a shift knob affects these properties:
1. vibration damping
2. inertia (resistance to move)
3. momentum (ability to keep moving once it's moved)

Thus heavier shift knobs:
1. vibrate less in your hand.
2. is comparatively more difficult to get moving, but this is negligible since even a child can easily move 13.5 oz.
3. less effort is required to keep the knob moving to its destination.

In summary, all it takes is an initial effort and the shift knob essentially moves itself to its destination.

Lighter knobs comparatively require you to keep pushing/pulling until the destination.
