The regulator actually holds the window in place without it, the window will not stay in the closed postion. I'm not a 100% on the proteges, but i did a power window conversion in old vw jetta and with out the regular the window wont stay place. I'm also have a protege DX and going to do the power window converts, but i'll using the motors and regulators from a 92 protege or modify one to fit. I'm going to the junkyard this weekend to put the 92 motors and regulator, i'll let you know how that goes. Feel free to ask, if you need more info.

Are you talking about the triangle shape glass on the rear doors. If it is, the answer is no you dont have to take it out. Wow, your lucky for $50, wish i could find a deal like that. Are you getting the door panels as well to get rid of the crank hole? since your at it think about putting aftermarket door lock actuators for power door lock, if you need info on that i can help you out to, i've already have that done. If you know anyone else that wants to sell their power window stuff from a 3rd gen for cheap let me know, to save me some workand time, to custom one up.

yep that's the piece im talking about...that's cool...I'd hate to have to take that out...no 'Im not getting the panels, they are the wrong color(tan)....isnt all the wiring already run from the factory also ?? Im hoping to be able to just bolt in the regulators and plug up the switches, as the motor and regulator are already one piece...looks like its pretty easy unless i have to run power wires

There isn't any wiring in the doors, but the wire for that power windows should be there from the factory at the fuse/relay station under the driver side dash the only wire you have to run is the from the motors to the relay system. Look in the FSM, it should have the wiring diagrams for the windows. Every thing else is pretty much bolt on. Make sure you put in the fuse and relay for it. My car panels are the tan or brown color, could you ask the guys if he is willing to trade me for my crank panels or work some deal. -Jon
