Power of a protege batter and alt with a system
i'm running a pioneer deh-p8600mp headunit with pioneer premier 6x8's and 6x9's all the way around with a 500watt rms amp and a RF 1.0 farad digital cap running to 1 12"Jl audio 12w6v2 in a custom box built by myself at the job. I'm getting crazy dimming headlight and don't know if i need to ungrade the battery or alt. Has anyone else had any problem with dimming headlight in the protege? I'm not to familiar with mazda's electrical systems since i'm a honda guy..help me out.

Upgrading the battery wont help your headlight dimming...its not going to put out more power, it will just have more reserves. An bigger alternator, or having your rewound to a higher output will help immensly!

I have the same problem and have done the following: Upgraded to a 1100 CCA battery, home made groundkit using 4 gauge wires, and upgraded the power wire going from the alternator to the fuse box and from the fuse box to the battery. None of it helped with dimming. There are batcaps, but they only work once a car's system drops to a certain voltage before the cap kicks in. A bigger battery will help as far as strain from the electrical system, but not help with light dimming. A friend of mine is testing out large capacitors to see if they would help (like 5 farad, 15 farad, and so forth). A few people have tried larger alternators but have had no success. The ECU is not compatible and it will do more harm than good.
