Perimeter shock sensor alarm
 

My alarm is different than most other people discribe. It will only go off if one of the doors is opened. Like it is only a perimeter alarm without the shock sensor. At first I thought maybe it was adjusted as low as it could but when I read the alarm manual and looked for the adjuster thing under the dash I couldn't find anything. In another thread somebody posted that there is a perimeter alarm and then one with the shock sensor. My cars option list said it has the Perimeter shock sensor alarm. So I am wondering if I got screwed and didn't get the shock sensor part or if they changed the alarm. Oh yeah my car is an 02 ES.

Is it so sensitive that it beeps at you when you tip toe by? I don't think you got screwed, you just have to find the little blackbox under the dash.

Look under the dash, aproximately above your left leg and you will see a blackbox about the size of a cigarette pack zip locked to some wiring. There is a small white knob on the side of the box, turning it counter-clockwise will turn down the sensitivity. I turned mine all the way down and haven't heard a peep out of it.

When I got mine my alarm was the same way you have described. I took it back to the dealer and they had forgot to either activate it or turn it up high enough to do anything. Be warned though the shock sensor is very very sensitive. I was out at baseball practice the other night and a Viper drove by it and set it off. LOL Good luck

The dealer is confusing you with the word perimiter. As it's commonly refered to as a Perimiter sensor, not an alarm. Just as a Shock sensor is that, not a shock alarm...

it SHOULD be there as desribed.

I found it. I guess I was just confused because of another post I read that said there were two different alarms. Anyway I would rather have $220 bucks instead of this thing. I would also rather not have the 6 disc changer. But it was the only car with everything that I wanted. Other than those 2 things it was the exact one I wanted.

what exactly is the perimeter sensor? sorry for sounding stupid. but, sometimes the "marketing hype" doesn't really describe what it is? tia...

I have the same problem, I bought my MP5 this past Feb. I bought it through a friend that does fleet sales so I gave her color preference and the request for every option (They also added leather for me because it wasn't an option yet). So my fully loaded MP5 was delivered a few days later..... with this stupid perimeter/shock alarm thing... Thank god you can turn it all the way down... Its the one thing I would have said no thank you too.

The perimeter alarm is an alarm for your doors and trunk opening. The alarm will go off if these open and the alarm is set. I guess they call that the perimeter.

Thanks Jason! I guess I was hoping that it was more like the Alpine alarm I have on my other cars. Anyhow, that REALLY helps me alot. Now I know that I don't want that alarm. I'll just go and get an Alpine. :D

Anyone bought the mazda perimeter alarm and had it installed? I asked my sales lizard when I bought the car if it was an option I could add and was told no. The next day I started surfing the mazda accessories and noticed I can buy a Mazda perimeter alarm for $184 from www.mazdastuff.com which is my dealer's parts website.
