Painting Question
 

I'm going to be purchasing the Mazda front lip, side sills, and rear bumper skirt soon. I would like to know if anyone has any painting experience. I have never painted any car parts and am curious about the difficulty and process. Would I be able to go to Home depot and get paint that matches and use a wagner power painter? What would I then do about the clear coat. Any suggestions/ideas??

You have a brand new 03 car... take the parts to an autobody shop and get them professionally done!! Honestly, you won't regret it!! Just shop around and get the best price you can with quality work!!

If you've never done it before, you'd be better off if you take it to a shop. Should be about $100-$150, maybe cheaper.

OMG... a wagner power painter? dude...that thing is made for painting your HOUSE...not your car...it will NOT spray automotive finishes correctly.....not to mention...HOME DEPOT is NOT the place to buy automotive finishes either.....

do yourself a HUGE favor....take the car to a pro at a real body shop and have the work done there.....you won't regret it.

Please tell me you are going to take your parts to a Body shop and have them painted there. I am a painter for an auto body shop up in Canada. and I have seen my fair share of crappy paint jobs guys have done and trust me don't do it.

You have a brand new car, don't ruin it by painting it with home depot paint. You will never find a color that matches good. A good place to take it to that will be cheap is Maco or any other chain paint shops.

I get the point, as I said, I have never done it before and have no idea what the processes would be. My goal was to find out if it is an easy thing to do, apparently not. So, I will be going to a paint shop to get it done. Thanks for your input!!

well, you never know, painting your bumper with a couple cans of krylon or plastikote in your garage could be quite a learning experience :) ....good decision on taking it to the shop, it ain't worth doing it yourself unless you're experienced AND you have the shop to do it in
