painting the interior techiniques
 

Is there any suggestion on how i should paint my interior to the best quality. i heard people say that i need to sand the surface and others say i don't. should i prime it then paint it and add a clear coat to it? What type of product would work best for this project.

I am half way done with re-doing my interior. Some of what I have done is painting the interior. They sell paints specifically for vinlys, dashboards, and cloth materials. You should be able to find them at your local car shop (or autozone or something). If you cant find any there try www.jcwhitney.com . Just look for interior paint.

I've been posting on this a lot lately, it seems.

Don't waste your money on "specialized interior paints", UNLESS you plan to color any vinyl. If you are sticking to just sprucing up the plastic stuff, I recommend Bumper Coater by SEM - made for exterior plastic bumpers. It'll last a good long time (probably forever), and comes in a lot of nice colors - I have a can of Titanium Silver ready to spray - just have to find the time.

It has a low-lustre finish - very similar to the stock appearance. If you want it glossy, you can clear coat it (SEM has that, too). If you really want, you can prime the parts (yes, they have primer), but unless you have put chemical cleaners (or ArmorAll, crap like that) on the plastic, priming is not really necessary. I would suggest a light sanding with 200 grit or finer paper (I'm going to use 400) - roughs up the surface for better adhesion, and cleans any contaminants (fingerprints, etc.) off the surface. So remove the parts for painting, sand lightly, then I would wipe the whole thing down with rubbing alcohol to get it really clean. Spray a bunch of light coats - just like typical spray painting.

My only issue right now is how to remove the interior door latches from the car, but I'm sure I'll figure i out.

For the SEM stuff, check any decent body shop supply store - you won't find it at Home Depot or Aid Auto Stores. It's about $6 a can - a steal of a deal.

We will paint anybodies interior panels. it will be done right and will last as long as you have the car.

so only at a body shop supply store, not home depot. i have to look for a place. how bout R&S or Pep Boys??

thats where you can get the SEM paint that hihoslva used. My paint is actually PPG automotive paint. Its used to paint cars off the assembley line and in repair shops. You need a real spray gun and compressor to do it the way I did mine.
