paint protection film
I have seen a paint protection film advertised and have run into several people who have had it done to various vehicles. They seemed very impressed with the wqy it worked to protect their cars.
Does anyone know of a place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada that sells and installs the film? I think it's made by 3M and goes by the name Scotchcal. X-pel and Star Shield sell it in the U.S.in precut kits and raw material, but don't seem interested in selling into Canada. |
Do you mean Stoneguard?
|
Yeah, That's one of the many names for it.
It's an optically clear (99.95) that is never supposed to yellow, crack, or peel. You can see an example at www.x-pel.com. I have seen it used on a Mercedes that routinely travels gravel roads to a cottage and while the film is nicked and scarred by stuff thrown up, the paint hasn't been chipped. There is even an application for the protection of our headlights available from MacNeil Automotive Products, www.mats.com. It won't stop a large stone from breaking the headlight with a direct hit but it will stop the sand blasting that our clear plastic headlights are prone to. No more milky headlights, they stay clear. |
Yea, I had the 3M stuff put on my P5. Its great. It covers the front good the lights, the fogs and I had it put on the back of the sideview mirrors. It was about 130 bucks, lifetime warrantee, wont wreck the paint if you take it off or replace it.:)

That's the stuff. Who did you get it from?
Any and all information is appreciated. Maybe I can find out from them who does it locally here or where they get their kits. |
All the info is posted on the 3M website for installtion an purchase. Get the 12 mm stuff. Umm i dont reccoment putting it on your self but I had a friend at Ziebart do it and that was the regular price.

Is the 3m stuff pretty hard to see on the car? Does it dull the shine of the car? I've been debating about this stuff since I got the car.

Yes.. you can see it if your standing close to the car and are looking for it.. my car is red.. i've heard that it's more obvious on red cars.. but even when I can see it.. it just seems to go with the car.. looks like I drove it off the car lot like that.. The texture is a little bit different..and its a little duller (again, depending on the angle you look at it).. but barely noticable.. Like I said.. I love it.. I'd recommend it.. great no-hassle protection for your car.. |
Yea mines red too and I can barely notice it. When I take a super close look I can see it but its minimal. I like the fact that its warranteed forever and wont hurt the paint.

I have heard that it accepts wax or polish exactly the same way as the regular clearcoat. You should be able to polish it just the same and get great results.
Fraay Where did you get it done? Viral_override Where did you get it done? |
