Paint JObs

A friend of mine wants to get his car repainted. NOw its a blue but it has so many scratches and hes already bought a body kit for it. The car would need to have 80% of it repainted anyway so hes decided to paint it black.

Now weve been all over to get pricings on this and there all over. Maaco wants 2800 (even though they advertised $1800) and thats the cheapest weve seen. From there we whent to this one body shop with chunks of the celling falling off and they wanted 3800 we even whent to one guy that wanted $15,000 (he paints porches and stuff).

What should a complete paint job cost. And any one have any experiences with maaco.

Maaco sucks! I had my Mustang painted black(originally red) and it was flaking right out of the booth. POS company that does half a$$ed jobs. I talked to a friend of my fathers and he said to do a paint job right that would rival factory paint jobs, would cost $3K & up. It's not necessarily the paint that's expensive, it's the labor. To do a paint job right virtually everything needs to be taken off that's not going to be painted. Taping should be kept to a minimal amount. Meaning the door lock on the outside needs to come off and not taped, just to give you an idea of what I mean.

But it also depends on how good of a paint job you want. Ask to see their work, if they are any good they will have a portfolio. One shop I went to wanted $1800. But they couldn't give me an estimated time that it would take. He said, "Because if we don't feel like working one day, then we don't work, so it's hard to tell." Yeah like he's going to get my money.

DAMN! paint jobs costs alot there! I'm gettin' my car painted for $5000, roughly $800US and that's an average price. The guy who's painting it will take off everything that doesn't need paint on it and I've seen his work already. I actually had to paint parts of my car already by him due to inexperienced drivin'...

$5000 is to make it look factory new...not just sand it and spray it....you can get that done here for like $400

god the dude doing mine does respectable work and he said he would redo it the factory color only add a silver pearl for like $1000. Paint jobs must be a big thing where you all are comin from lol.

Any body shop work around here costs a kidney. And they still have lines out the door.
