p5 Amp hidden under trunk floor
I was looking around a few days ago and thought I saw a pic of an amp hidden under the floor mat in the trunk on top of the spare tire, but I cant find it anymore:tear: If anyone knows of it could they provide me with a link? I dont like the little quick job I did on my amp and sub a few years ago, so trying to find new ways of setting it up without securing it to the plastic side panels. I dont think I will have problems with it overheating because I dont have a major system just 500w amp 10inch sub and capacitor. Any other suggestions of mounting it would be appreciated.
Thanks all |
If you're thinking about what I think you are, that's the stock spare tire subwoofer with integrated amp.. to get it to fit there, they had to raise the floor up and inch or two with trays, and I believe the spare tire is mounted upside down with the subwoofer sitting down in it

ohhh that makes things interesting. guess I may need to rethink just a bit, since Im not gonna buy a new system. Thanks Kansei

You could try something like I did too .. take the amp/sub rack from a MazdaSpeed Protege and install it in the back of the P5. I actually saw it from another board member a while back, but just improved on the design a bit so if you're interested feel free to post any questions you might have. Here's a link to some pics.

hmm that box looks like it takes up alot of space, I dont have any experience making a rack as well, I may just have to stick with what I have. If I didnt have flat tires every time I turned around I would be tempted to take out the spare, but man I have bad luck with tires, and I take long trips too often to not want the spare just in case.

The box & rack were taken direclty from a MazdaSpeed Protege, and will bolt right up if you can cut through the plastic side panels. Any 8" sub will fit in that enclosure, but it's kinda tight so you may wanna go with a JL of some sort since they kinda specialize in making subs fit into the tiniest spaces.

Well I have a 10" so that kinda kills that idea, I think I may just look at elevating the floor panel and fitting the amp underneath it, and just leave the sub behind the driver side backseat.
