Orange Illumination and Dimming

has anyone sucessfully gotten their aftermarket deck to dim using its autodim feature when you turn on the lights... i have a pioneer deck.. it has an orange illumination wire.. but my BEST wiring harness doesnt have an orange wire.. it does have power antenna wire that i was planning to move to the dimmer wire location in the factory harness.. but from searching threads on the board it seems as though it just wont work..
any updates or new information about this...?
id like to have the dimming feature work.. but is seems as though there is no fix for this...

I did what you describe... moved the power antenna wire in the harness to the dimmer control line. My Z919 dims when I turn the head lights on (it is not continuously varaible, but that is how it is designed). If I have the dash illumination control all the way up then the deck stays at full brightness (nice for day time with lights one) and then as you turn the brightness down it does dim.

Of interest is that when I had originally not used a harness (made my own) I had put the dimmer line into the wrong location on the harness (one of the "unused" locations) and it also worked. It might be a good idea to use a multi-meter and see what the voltage on correct line is and then on the the one next to it when you turn the lights on and off.

PS. do you still have the Best part number for the harness? I think it was the BHA7901.

ok so it should work by moving the power antenna wire to the illumination pin location... i guess i was getting confused as to if it works or not.. my pioneer premier doesnt have a variable dim external to the dimming switch.. but it does have an auto dim when headlights are turned on..as well it does have an internal brightness setting...

but just to verify its the blue/white wire not the lime/? wire right that no one really knows does?

the best harness i have is the bha7902 ... 2001 mazda aftermarket harness...

thanks for your help...

what I did was to take the un-unsed wire in the harness for the power antenna lead and carefully removed it from the connector with a very small pair of tweezers and dental pick. I then transfered it to the location for the dimmer wire and use it to hook up to the HU dimmer wire.

In my final install the wire I used for the dimmer was the white/blue wire. But, on a prior temp install I had accidentally used the lime/black one (I think that was the one, it was over a year ago). In either case, before I put the HU in I used a volt meter to check and see that the connection I chose did indeed change voltage when I used the dimmer control on the car.
