newbie who needs help

I just got my Dad's 94 protege DX about 2 weeks ago after my parents sold my '91 Jeep Comanche(loved that truck) becuase it was just too much money to maintain a crappy American car. Anyways, the sound system is very shitty and I need to replace it and the speakers. The sound system that is in it right now is made by coustics, I'm guessing that's not stock...right?

Right now I'm looking at crutchfield.com for a pretty sweet setup on a budget.

Kenwood KDC-119
Kenwood KFC-1668S 6-1/2" 2-way Speakers
Blaupunkt PCxt542 5-1/4" 2-way Speakers

My questions are: Will I be able to install this even though the cassette deck isn't stock, or so I think? How is this system? Anyone think of anything else? I'm all ears...

Thank you, these are great forums.

Thanks blue LEDz.

The only thing is just that I'm bit afraid of installing without all the stuff that crutchfield has. I've never done anything inside to a car. I've replaced the spark plugs, air filter, oil, recharge ac, etc..

Crutch has all the wiring harnesses, sheets and stuff that I will probably need. Is it really easy to install it? even for a freckin bonehead like me? The radio actually fell out and there were just so many dam wires.

Also, if I went with the sites that blue said, would I need to buy anything else with it?

Thanks.

Sounds great

Wow blue thanks, it does sound easy! What do you mean by HU?

Yeah, the front ones are 6.5 and I'm pretty sure that the back ones are 5.25-at least that is what crutch says, unless I could fit a 6.5 there.......I'm guessing that if I could put a 6.5 there I will get better sound compared to a 5.25?

One question is the fact that the receivers say that they cant read MP3's, thats what bothers me, because thats all I do is burn mp3's onto cd-rs and play them. I would use my sony walkman with the car kit with the tape deck and it would work perfectly. Is there any way around this rather than spending $100 more for a receiver that actually reads mp3's. My parents and grandmother are spending up to $200 for this and I have to make up the rest. I really don't want to spend a whole lot of money on this, because I know that you can really spend a lot of money on an audio system and get a really kick ass system. I just want one that will play mp3's on cd-rs and be relatively cheap.

Thanks.

hmmm...ok

I download music files in the .mp3 format and then take those and burn them directly as mp3 files onto cd-r's. But I only get about 20 songs onto a 80 minute disc.

My discman reads the mp3's directly and plays it via the car kit, its about 2 years old.

Maybe my burner program does burn into the wav format from mp3 and I dont know it...its strange.

OK

Ok Blue, now I'm begginning to understand. I'm pretty sure that I use Nero for burning cds too. I just select to do Audio CD, drag and drop, then burn.

My last and final question is: Will I be able to do what I do above and then play them in the Kenwood KDC-119?

Thank you for all the help, it is much appreciated.

One more thing, Can i fit 6.5 inch speakers in the rear? I think I might buy the hu(see I'm learning :) ) from crutch for all the installation help and buy the speakers cheaper from a different website, since if I'm reading right, all you have to do is just disconnect the old speakers and plug in the new ones, very simple.....

Sorry for all the dumass questions.
