New Tachometer for my 99 DX

The DX model has no RPM gauge. Is it possible to install a tach from the LX model?

If its like the 2nd gen then yes... and it most likely is

So if i were to buy some colored gauges for a LX model, i could install them in my car. But would i have to go to a auto body shop and have them convert or install?

asylum24 August-16th-2003 11:03 PM

again im not sure but the 2nd gen DX's came with the tach wire just laying there ready to be plugged in but Mazda just dindnt put in a gauge for it... so if its like the 2nd gen(wich i bet it is) you could proly just hook it up and not need any type of conversion kit or anything but to be safe i might go by a mazda dealer and ask a tech guy or soemthing first.. tah way you cant yell at me :)

sounds like a plan, i'll find out the details and let you guys know

Just go out and get a cluster from an LX or ES at a junkyard or something, and the wire is already there, you just have to plug it in. But the only thing is the mileage stays on the cluster, so you gotta watch that, i think mazda may be able to reprogram the cluster to your actual mileage.

so if i buy some glow gauges off ebay for the mazda do i have to go buy wiring for those or do they already come with them?

The glow gauges on ebay are not the whole gauge cluster, they are just overlays.

And overlays, when not installed properly, tend to break the gauge cluster they're being put in.

But those glow gauges will not do you anything with your DX gauges.

I figured that, so what do you suggest i do?
