New system for the Jetta

Well, finally going ahead with stereo stage 1 on project Jetta, the Stereo! While the Moonsoon isn't horrible, it's gotta go.

Head Unit = Alpine 7995 CD Player/Tuner
Amp = MTX Thunder 4405 5ch amp (50wx4 + 200wx1)
Speakers = DEI Pro+ components up front, coax in rear (keeping rear OEM tweeters)
Sub = IDQ4 DVC 10" w/a custom enclosure

will eventually get a flip out monitor and Pioneer Navi system, but this will do to start.

Just thought i'd share...it's so much fun to start with a brand new car, a fresh pallet :D :D :D :D

after this is done, engine stage 1 gets underway...mmmmm

mmmmmm, engine......... :) This is a dumb question, but how does the component speakers work with an amp? I haven't seen too many amps that have component stuff instead of coax stuff.

p.s. CHIP CHIP CHIP! :)

Most component systems have an outboard crossover. You run the speaker leads to that crossover, then attach the separate woofer and tweeter to the crossover. The amp doesn't "see" any real difference.

right, there are basically 3 ways to do this

1. passive 2 way xover.
as explained, woofer and tweeter get connected to the xover and then the amp connects to it also. Most are designed to show the amp 4ohms, but a passive xover will rob some power.

2. passive tweeter xover and electronic xover.
the tweeter gets a specific value capacitor (xover) and the amps buit in electronic xover or an outborad electronic xover is used to tune in the woofer.

3. electrnic xover w/ each speaker on it's own channel.
A 4ch amp can be used to power all 4 components in a 2way system. The 2 tweeters on channels 1 and 2 and the 2 woofers on channels 3 and 4. The amps built in electronic xovers (or an outboard electronic xover) is then used to tune in the components.

oh and yes, engine stage 1 on project Jetta, is a CAI, BOV and chip :D :D :D :D Stage 1.5 = exhaust and turbo downpipe and then suspension Stage 1 = strut bars, springs and lower tie bars Susp. Stage 2 = brakes and struts...yes, i've been thinking alot about it :):)

Darryl, do you have any pics of your new Jetta? I know we're getting a little off topic (car audio) here, but I can't help it! : ) 1.8T = great modabilitity... When you're done with your Stage 1, it'll feel like a different car! Those f'in chips are crazy awesome!

Here's another Vdub question.... When did they start putting in the 1.8t to the GTIs? I really like GTIs, but I like the older body style better than the new ones. The older ones also look smaller, and smaller = lighter. Maybe it's just my imagination though.
