Neoprene seat covers

Okay, so the reality of my car's life is that it gets used for carting dirty sweaty ppl and bikes/boards/packs etc. around to and from trails, lifts, lakes, assorted whatever. I've seen (custom) Neoprene seatcoveres advertised in SCC or whatever tuner mag I've picked up at the crocery store forlike $400 for front and rear in a assortment of 2 tones (I'd likely do blue/black) From experience with my friend's Nissan truck, Neoprene's pretty cool, keeps the funk off the car nicely. Mostly I was jsut wondering if anyone out there's got some, and if so what brand, where from and what you think of 'em. I figure the sooner I do this, the better, for the sake of my poor car.

I have wet okoles and i love them. they were a bit expensive, but they've lasted over a year with no problems or complaints.

Thanks for the info.

Mind me asking howmuch they ran you? I assume you got the custom set, right? What colors did you get, and how do they fit, etc. Do you know if they give you a bit of a break if you get front and rear at the same time bychance? Sorry to bug you, just it's kinda a big purcahse, I'm halfway prepared for it, just wanna make sure it's gonna be worth it.

Anyone else have exprienc with neoprene covers?

Looks like I'm just gonna do it. Sorta a gamble not really seeing what I'm buying, but it should be cool.

WHat do you all suggest for us who have side airbags. Would they still deploy if we cut out the area where the markings are on the sides of the seats?

Poseur July-17th-2003 11:24 AM

THe wet okoles are designed for side airbags

I checked out eggynatey's profile, and in one of the pics you can see they're pre-cut for side airbags. Pretty sweet. If you're interested, let me know, I'm gonna maybe see if we can get a group buy going. Since they're basically custom made, I'd assume it should cut down on their cost alot if they do like 5 sets at a time, I've already got one friend interested.

i'd be interested in the group buy if the price wasn't too outrageous.

eggynatey July-17th-2003 12:49 PM

They're about 200 bucks. I have a dog, and I surf, so I really needed protection. These seat covers really do a good job of that, plus they look great :)

Why the fuck can't I post pics anymore?

vip3321685 July-17th-2003 05:11 PM

200 bucks front and back? or just fronts? if it's for both i'll get some!!!

Esteban Toledo July-17th-2003 05:38 PM

I may be interested in a group buy. However, I'd rather have these: http://www.autoanything.com/aquatech2.asp . It looks much cleaner, without the logos.

Natey, do you have seat covers on the back seats? If so, is it much trouble folding the seats?

eggynatey July-23rd-2003 09:09 PM

No I don't.
My back seat is usually folded down, so it wasnt worth it for me to get rears. BTW you can order Wet Okoles without the logos.

...Did I mention that mine are a year old and still look brand new? Or that they are side-airbag compatible? ;)

Not to burst your bubble but that giant generic hole in the side still covers the SRS deployment area (which is right out of the SRS patch I'm pretty sure).

I'm sure the covers are good, but ya gotta love the custom/semi-custom marketspeak. Semi-custom? I mean, come on!

WTF are you talking about? Custom: Made to order. I told them what kind of car I have and Wet Okole found the specs of the seat, and MADE seat covers for it. Custom seat covers.

The "giant, generic hole" is over where the airbag deploys, plus the cover is made out of this new material called (are you ready?)RUBBER! It's really great, this rubber stuff....it stretches! So maybe the hole doesn't have to be directly over the SRS logo at all times.

Are you even looking for seat covers, or are you just spewing misinformation about something you no nothing about?
 noob...

Ok well thats my only issue. I didnt see any pics of a "generic hole" Anyway thats 200 bones for the front seats. Have to think it over.

Hey man, nothing personal, it's just a seat cover. Just because it's "custom" doesn't mean it's made properly. They have like maybe 300 templates and it's possible there's a mistake. They just made a big hole on the side to literally cover their ass in event of an accident. Also I really don't think an elastic material is going to stretch as fast as the rate of deployment of an airbag, which is like close to the speed of sound. ie. Try this: swing a rubber hammer fast as you can at the edge of a stretch elastic material, it'll "catch" more often than it slips.

I myself just got $10 covers and I was going to cut a hole in them precisely where the bags come out. I think it's right out of the SRS patch hole (not ripping apart the whole seat side which would be difficult considering it's all stitch and everything).

Anyway, it's not that big of a deal. Jeez, it's not like an attack on your manhood or something.

Tim.
