MP5 Gear Knob

Just got my 2003 Protege 5 today (laser blue, 5 speed with moonroof and ac). I LOVE the car...except for the HUGE shifter knob. I have quite small hands, and this thing is massive! Anyone with the same thoughts?

sexyrah, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. :{D

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

NOW for your question.....yes.....I didn't like my stock shift knob either....so I had a custom one made. Its made of the same material that a pool ball is....its BRIGHT yellow just like my car and has the shift pattern engraved into the top of it....the ball is 1 7/8 inch in diameter, which was a tad smaller than the original shifter.

the thing to remember is if you want to get a shift knob that screws on the shaft just like a stock knob does...the size of the thread pitch you want/need is 10mm X 1.25

Thanks Sir Nuke for the advise and the dimensions...I will look into having a nice blue one made :-) or even a carbon fibre one. Can you recommend any particular place, online or other, to buy?

Cheers
Sarah

make sure you get the one made for the miata, as it will screw right onto your shifter. they have two sizes: 1-7/8 and 2 inches.

as a matter of fact I can...the company is called EPCO their site URL is:

http://www.epcomfg.com/

they make everything from custom pool ball sets to bowling balls to shift knobs....you name it....and they do wonderful work too. What I would suggest you do is go write them and have them send you a brochure to see all the cool stuff they can do insted of me typing for a half hour describing it...lol. but they can make you a knob just about ANY size you like, they can do inlays of anything you would want.....they can and will even do custom colors....as in you could send them a sample of the paint from your car (send them some of the touch up paint) and they can and will match it! when I emailed them I actually got email back from one of the two owners (brothers) and delt with him directly...it was cool. the knob I had specially made only cost me $40....I didn't think that was to bad for something NOT off the shelf.

the knob I got was simple....and somewhat plain, but that is what I wanted...but the company that made it for me can do some really cool stuff.....as I mentioned before...just go to their site and there is a 1-800 number and an email...request one of their brochures.....

here is another shot of it.
