MP5 Factory Speakers

Hi everyone, i'll be getting a new M5% in about a month or so, but i was wondering how are the stock speakers in this car??

i have taken it out a few times for a test drive, but haven't remember to listen to the radio.

i plan on changing the Deck and adding a CD changer and maybe an amp and sub as well.

Can someone recommend a good deck that has a 12 CD changer as well, also good ampo, sub, and other speakers as well.

Thanks everyone.

Well When I took the car for a test drive I was amazed at how bad the stereo sounded. But I since I put in my new deck I have been very pleased. At very high volumes the speakers do distort as expected but with my subs going I have the bass down on the speakers & the distortion goes away. I'm going to wait until I blow one before I replace them all. I don't expect that to be very soon.

p5 speakers

I just replaced my stocks with clarions . The p5 system is junk. No power and crappy speakers. Paper garbage. I was amazed they sounded as good as they did after I saw them though.

the stock spkrs are really efficient (take a look at the magnets) but get decently loud. altho it will distort at higher volumes they should be okay if you balance your sub(s) right. it all depends on what you want from your system, but i'd swap 'em out if i were you. :)

you know it is funny , I often wondered why dealers put cheap speaker in there car, but when you pull the speaker out and look at it , you see why .......

If you can try and look into component sets. they are a little on the costly side , but the sound quality is pretty amazing , my pionners and Kenwoods , really have a hard time matching my friends pionner components.
I have since purchased a set of JL audio components from a friend for 50 bucks ,, I may contemplate doing a custom install for the 6x9 in the rear with a set of mb quartz components... has anyone ever seen a bracket that will fit a 6x9 hole and hold the woofer and the tweater ...
I currently have kenwood 4 ways in the rear and a set of pionners 2 ways in the front with a tweeter in the door

Yeah, i'm getting a new deck and speakers for sure, but what size are the speakers in the front and rear???

i hear 5x7 in the front.
do you have to do anything to have them fit, or they just slide right in???

i'll check out brands later, i just want sizes first.
i'll also worry about the Sub and amp later on as well.

thanks...

5x7 front; 6.5 rear
mounting depth is only an issue if you're gonna buy the deep spkrs. BUT just for info's sake:
2.5"front; 2"rear (this is mounting depth)

Hi Dy Ho,
I would replace the deck first. If it is powered, let it run your stock speakers while you decide what speakers/amp to get. The stock speakers are fine when amped and you will be surprised.
I would do bass next. Then put some good co-ax or separates up front to give a cleaner sound from the mid and to get clear highs. This is my next step. The mid will take care of itself is my point. Bass and highs are the hard part.

Oh my goodness ! The stock speakers suck big time, i pulled into this spot over the weekend where all these civics where at, they were like sweet ride dude ! Then someone turned up my radio and they started laughing, i was like i just got this car and they understood, when i drive through heavyly crowded area's full of girls and teens i have to turn the radio down ! Put it on mute to save myself from the shame   The stock speakers are cool if you dont like to blast your system, but if you do, an upgrade is needed !

stock speakers blow. Replace them first, with anything you can find. I just replaced everthing . I paid 150 for both sets of speakers and then my old deck. If you go to ebay you can get everthing under 350 . Decent goods to. Whatever you do replace the speakers

The front door openings are 5x7", the rear doors are 6.5", and the sedan's rear deck openings are 6x9". Bruce, I have MB Quart 6x9 coaxials in the rear deck, and MB Quart 5.25" reference components in the front. MB quart makes 6x9 and 5x7 adapters for mounting round speaker sizes, which I am using for my front speakers.

6x8 and 5x7 are the same thing. Seriously. I know it's confusing, but it's true.

Look at the crutchfield site - they even list all the models as 5x7/6x8.

For the rear doors, you do have to be careful what 6.5"s you get, because not all fit. I bought a set of Peerless 6.5" for midbass, and the basket is too big for the stock opening and I had to make an MDF adapter bracket.

Also - I think there is significantly more room that 2" in the rear. Maybe up to 4", because I think only a speaker with a HUGE magnet would interfere with the window when it rolls down (which, BTW, is almost always what determines the max depth in a car door).

And lastly, let's not forget Mazda's wonderful 3-hole mounting pattern in the rear doors. Tough to find a speaker that matches that. However, it is a simple modification of either drilling a few holes in the speaker ring to line up with the stock mounting points, or drilling a few holes in the door panel to use the mounts of the new speaker. Either one is no big deal.
