Mood Lighting
Got some blue film and put it up in the dome light this afternoon.
It's a much better blue than what any painted blue bulb looks like. The pics definitely don't do any justice to what it looks like in real life! (It's a really mellow dark blue... Feels kinda like bein underwater) Goes great with the exterior color of my P5 and looks AWESOME from the outside when it comes on with the unlock from the keyless. :D before: http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...2/fdc67cd1.jpg after: http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...4/fdc67ccd.jpg |
Looks pretty cool.........I got to do that as well in the near future...

During the day, you can see the film through the plastic so it looks like the cover was made that color in the first place. Plus it won't fade or overheat like a painted bulb can do. Gonna do the map lights next. I'll try to snap a pic of what the dome looks like in the daytime after work today. |
cool.......thanks for the helpful info !!!

Originally posted by Protégé Ménacé I had tryed that, i used some blue gel (the colored film stuff they put on the lights at stages and stuff to make them diff colors) and its supposed to be able to take high heat (sitting rught under big halogen lights) but after a little bit the gel like melted and almos got stuck onto my light bulb so i took it out:mad: what did you use? and you sure it wont start a meltdown?;) For mine, I used the same stuff but I have it laying right in the dome light cover. the bulb itself is about 2 - 3 cm above the film so I think I should be ok. ( I Hope ) The dome light bulb is small and hardly gives off a lot of heat/light. |

Thanks! :D
It's a Lee Stage Lighting Filter - #165 - Daylight Blue. A 24"x24" sheet cost me all of 6 bucks. I used MAYBE a dollars worth out of it! I love cheap mods! That specific color is used in stage productions to simulate moonlight. I must say, at night it's DAMN close. Just wish my damn digicam would take better night pics so you could see just how cool it looks.. :( I just cut it to fit inside the plastic cover of the dome and map lights. Took about an hour for each to do a good job... Word of caution! Be careful removing the dome light cover. It's a bitch to remove and i have a couple nice scratches on the plastic to show for it.. The map light cover was easy to pop off. |
Originally posted by Protégé Ménacé no i knew if it touched it would melt, but i made it so it pinched inside there so the edges were pushing on the outside of the housing, so as to be as far from the bulb as possible, but after it got warm i guess it lost its shape and started to make odd shapes, then touching the bulb and melting more, i guess i could try it diff but am worried it may start a little fire or somehitng I also think from your description that my film is a lot further from the bulb than yours was? Mine's just laying loose in the tray of the cover. No pinching or anything like that required! |
where'd you buy the stuff at?

LOL
I think that looks great and I AM NOT LAUGHING AT IT,, I promise it jsut reminds me of when a buddy tried to do that but he took a marker and colored it in that was funny it didn't work that well at all after a few days... I may have to try that it looks sweet and won't end up like the markers did for my buddy a few years back.. Brycer79 |
He is right , the bulbs in the second gen protege, get hot as hell, when you leave the lights on ,, although it sucks I DON'T HAVE A SUNROOF ,,, but oh well

i don't have any pictures, but i replaced the map light bulbs with red ones and at night with the bulbs on it looks like a klingon war ship inside my car, especially with all the dash lights on, too.

I replaced my bulbs with the blue bulbs on the inside, and it looks awesome at night. Once I get a chance I will take pics and post them.
