MBQuarts? Fitment?

i'm looking at getting a set of 6.5" MBQuart DKD 116

and

a set of 6"x9" MBQuart DTC 169
-will these fit up front in place of the stock 6x8"?
http://www.jaje.org/images/mbquart_dtc169.jpg

Plan of Attack:
1. Keep headunit (stock looks good, keeps stereo theives away, and is cheap;))
2. Get good speakers (MBQuarts come highly recommended)
3. Two amp system...one for the regular speakers then a single channel for a small sub...i don't know much about amps and what to get
4. A small space occupying subwoofer [maybe a microsub]

My Overall Goals:
1. Good sounding system with some bass (don't care about a lot)
2. Keep whole system price under $500 (will install myself)

I have Mb quart RSD 216's the tweeters are really harsh in my opinion when you make them loud.

I'd say go with some Infinity's or some boston acoustics.
Im going for boston acoustic pro's in my front.

the 6 1/2 will fit the rear doors NO PROBLEM...the 6 X 9's on the other hand won't fit the fronts without some serious work....for starters you only have 2 1/2 inches depth to work with in the front doors. so those 6 x 9's are 7/8's of an inch too deep.

are kenwood excelon KFC-XR601's any good?...i wonder if they are mbquart quality?...they are really light and come with dualmagnets

the mazda accessories catalog has the front kenwood speakers that they say will fit factory mounts in my pr5...what model of kenwood are they b/c i'd like to get them cheaper than the dealer markup...are they the eXcelon KFC-X688C which are .0625" too long (2.5625 which is a 1-2 mm longer than the 2.5" room you say there is)...i guess i might have to give it a try

Listen to Nuke hes right. YOur can has no 6x9 openings.

I have used quarts for 4 years now. I would suggest a 5 1/4 component or coaxles in the front or a direct 6x8/5x7 drop in. Get 6 1/2 coaxles for the back.

I think your P5 has the a pillar tweeter mount. You don't want a quart tweeter this high unless you can really limit is volume. Trust me here I have some partial hearing damage in my left ear from doing this in my integra. The speaker will probably sound better with out using that tweeter location. Keep the tweets with the mid drivers. If you want you can use the factory tweeter off the deck, but you will have to run new leads for the Quart speakers.

No chance of staying under $400 total. Any 4 channel amp worth crap is atleast $200. the cheapest method is the Alpine 5 channel, $250, I have convinced just about everyone to use and a single JL 10 sub, $170 in a premade JL box. However these 2 together are already over $400 with the quarts, and an 8 guage wiring kit you aren't getting out of this for under $600.

By the way BA pros are terrible aviod them. Also they have a more harsh tweeter then the Quarts D series. Anyone looking to spend that much on speakers should think about the Focal, Alpines new high line stuff, or the JL XRs, also the new Z series BAs are better, also i heard a set of image dynamics that were amazing.

So you are saying the pro's suck , anyone else want to comment on this.

Cause the harshness of the quarts is worlds above boston acoustics.

Bostons are smooth and nice to the ears.

Any other comments?

i got the 6 x 8 kenwood excelon kfc-x88c for the front (factory fit) and infiniti kappa 62.5I for the rear

i won't get a subwoofer b/c bass isn't a big think to me and it helps me meet my budget

1. what is a good $200 amp to drive those speakers? i will get the crutchfield amp wiring kit from the head unit

2. do i need to run a better speaker wire or can i reuse the stock stereo wires?

pimpprotege69 October-9th-2002 04:05 PM

So what are the best components in the 400$ range then?

Using a kicker 300.2 amp by the way.

Suggestions welcomed.
