mazdaspeed system on a p5?
 

i came acrosss this complete mazdaspeed audio system on sale at ebay

probably came off a wrecked msp...can i install the sub and amp assembly on the back of my p5? or will i have to disassemble it and mount it another way?

It can be done, some have. But you can also do alot better. Might be a good deal, Hell the covered pockets alone are woth like $70, but I wouldn't spend TOOmuch $ on it. Alot of MSP owners ditch their stock system and upgrade. The stock sub box will require a bit of getting creative with, can't remember anyone in partic who's done it, perhaps they'll speakup.

I've got the MSP audio system in my P5....it was pretty straightforward. I paid $300 for everything but the head unit.....dont use the headunit...it's a piece of garbage. I kick myself everyday when I climb into my car and realize the crap doesn't work. I should've kept my stock 6-disk....also the sub puts out very little thump. I'm upgrading to a JL audio sub and keeping the stock box.

All I did to mount it was remove the factory brackets and plastic trim around the lip. It's a flat carpeted panel at that point. Then I lay both rear seats flat and measured to center it up on the seat. Using a metal drill bit I tapped 4 small holes using the same locations as the brass fittings on the sub box....then I got 4 metal screws and some washers and ran them through the brass fittings on the box using the washers to snug it up. It was very simple and took less than 30 minutes. I also ran the wires under the carpet and up through the seat so no wires are showing.

The headunit is absolute garbage....I wouldn't waste my time thinking about getting one. Just go and buy yourself a nice new headunit that you like instead...

The speakers sound great, I was a little upset that the 5X7's in the front have bass-caps on them so they get no bass...If you are able to de-solder them you would probably get better bass response out of the system.

The sub hit's ok, but I came from a a car that a 10" in a bandpass box to that little free-air 8" and it's not enough. After I upgrade to the JL sub I'll find out if it's even worth keep ing the box.

p.s. The reasn I wanted the MSP audio system was to do a conversion on my p5 but realized it was just better to buy nicer audio stuff instead. Also, I love the box/sub rack. In the P5 it takes up very little space and thats what I wanted. I could've very easily swapped my 10" bandpass box to my P5 but it would've taken up all of the cargo room. The MSP box in the P5 is the way to go if you want to keep your space. It is a compromise though if you are serious about sound. Be prepared to upgrade subs.
