mazda rx-7 side mirrors..

i just picked up a pair of side mirrors ($5 bucks) off of a 1986 rx-7 cause the screw pattern looked the same. i sized them up roughly and i'm thinking about doing a swap for my lx side mirrors and giving them a new home on my car... besides, they look alot sweeter than the proteges, and i was wondering if anyone has done this cosmetic swap, like do you have to cut the plastic on the outside to size or anything, will they bolt on or what not, is the wiring the same on all power mirrors for mazda's? i'm just curious as to whether or not anyone has ever done this, just waiting for the weather to clear up... hopefully tomorrow and tearing my mirrors off to find out.. anyone?

I personally really like how the LX mirrors look. If you do it, post some pics for us to see:D

err, well shit, i have two hampering developments, i am lacking a digital cam.. however that doesn't impede the situation of getting digitally developed prints from standard 35mm film. but 2, the mirror casings had hairline cracks in them, i tried appoxxying it up and it just fell apart (well, one did, the other i broke in frustration :( ), so i'm going to order 2 more used rx-7 mirrors off an 86-89 if i can find them and they don't cost much.. if you're wondering what lx mirrors look like, they're the pivoting type that you'll see in all first generation mirrors, cept with a slight design in the casing i think, but it doesn't look that much different than your side mirrors would if you have a first gen. the rx-7 mirrors are non-pivoting, however... are power driven.. at least in the trim i looked at. i just think it would have a more sporty look if i had rx7 mirrors, and the screw pattern lines up perfectly, but since the damn things i got are now broken, i couldn't test for depth or anything, only to notice that i'd have to make a cut in the front of the mounting portion of the mirror cause they extend further than the lx side mirrors. it's a real goofy project, but just thought it would be cool to be the first to try a small swap like so.. hopefully..

If you want sporty mirrors, you might want to look into the M3 style mirrors. They sell for around $60 a pair from Ebay. I don't know exactly which model fits but Bob (Bizob on the board) has a set on his Protege. They look nice as hell too.
