Magnetic Bra?
 

Does anyone have a Magnetic Bra like the one that protege5online.com is selling?

What are these bras made out of? I dont see it listed on the site, but most bras are made out of leather.

Do these bras hold up to wind on the Interstate?

If anyone can answer these questions, or has one that they can comment on, please send input. Thanks :)

I emailed the company, and recieved a pretty fast response. The guy told me that the outside is made of UV resistant vinyl, and the inside is made of rubber with magnettic particles. Sounds interesting, but will vinyl hold up as long as leather?

Does anyone own one of these things? :confused:

I have one of the magnetic bras. I'm pretty happy with it.

The material is flexible magnetic vinyl. It's quite similar to the
magnets you put on your refrigerator. Installation is pretty easy.
You just put it on and adjust it until the contour of the bra matches
the contour of your hood. Then there's a strip of molding that you
snap on all the way around. There's no fasteners, glue, or any
other stuff. It is easy to put on and take off.

The only hitch is that everything needs to be pretty warm so that
the vinyl is pliable enough to snugly wrap around the ridges on
the hood. The directions recommend a hair dryer, but I used a
clothes dryer (low heat/10 minutes).

The only other hard part is that once you put the bra on, it is a
little tricky to reposition because the magnet sticks pretty well.
You kind of have to unroll it onto the hood, and if you're off by
a little bit, you roll it back up and try again.

The molding snaps around the bra and the hood, so (1) you can't
take it off without opening the hood (prevents theft) and (2) you
don't have an exposed leading edge for wind or water to get under.
So yes, it stays on at highway speeds.

I can't say how durable it is, because I've only had mine for a
couple weeks. The directions say to wax it or use vinyl protectant
on it, which I did. It also says to take it off if the sun is intense
and you're not going to be driving on the highway.

They're fairly cheap, though ($37 + S&H @ protege5online.com),
so even if it only lasts a couple years, it's still cheaper (and easier
on your paint job) than buying a leather bra from Mazda.

The bra is black, and it blends in pretty well with my black P5. You
can't tell it's installed unless you're pretty close. I dressed up the
bra with a Mazda decal from edecals.com; it looks pretty good.

I have a few more questions, how often do they recommend you take the bra off?

Would you purchase the magna bra again or for another car? and last but not least,

Those decals that you buy from the online store, do you know what the white carbon fiber looks like? It says that the price for that color/style is 50% more.

The instructions don't say how often to remove it. They tell how to
clean it, though. (Just regular soap and water.) I plan to remove mine
each time I wash the car, and wash it separately. That'd be once a
week (or so) in the nice weather. Maybe once a month now that winter
is here.

I have dealt with hook-on leather bras in the past. They are a pain to
get on and off. What's worse, water and dirt gets trapped underneath
them and mucks up the finish. Besides that, they're hard to clean.

The magnetic bra comes off really easy. It's a little harder to put it on
than it is to take it off, but it's still easier than the leather ones. Sure,
I'd buy one for another car. Or again for the same car.

It also sticks really tight to the hood, so dirt and water can't get in.
The only exception is where it has to stick to the hood's ridges. There
are tiny gaps there, but they're not too bad.

There's only one drawback that I see: the magnetic bra only covers the
top of the hood. It does not cover the front of the car below the hood
or the sides (around the fog lights, for example). It offers far less protection.
However, most stones and bugs seem to do their damage at the front of
the hood, so the magnetic bra does cover the most vulnerable spot.

I got a plain red decal, and I haven't seen the carbon fiber ones. The

I got the 3x22 inch Mazda decal (just the word; no emblam). I kind of
wish I had gotten the next larger size. It would have looked better, I
think, but I might have had to place it higher on the hood.
