Lug measurement on a '99
Hey, all. =)
I was wondering if anyone knows the lug spacing on the '99 LX 4-bolt. I'm setting up for some 18's and some suspension work, and I can't seem to find the specs here. Anyone have any idea? Thanks |
if it the same as the 1gen its 4x100. i wouldnt see why they would change it. ;)

It is 4x100mm.

Thanks...
Thanks, guys. I appreciate it.
Here's a tougher one... I'm making this '99 I just got my hands on a full on project car that my father and I are working on, and figured on starting with a GC/Eibach lowering and a set of 18's once I got the specs on the lug spacing. Has anyone had problems on the 3rd Gens with a similar setup? In going over the car and finding what I can online, it seems that this should work fine, requiring a camber adjustment at the least. Anyone else know differently? =) Thanks, guys. =) --->DJ |
It's certainly possible. Joe Jordan from the Wheelstore/Protomotive has 18" wheels and true coil overs on his street '99 Protege. You will need to be exact with the offset of the rims and size of the tires to prevent rubbing though. Search the ProtegeTech board for past posts from Joe to find out more info about his set up. I hope you live in a place with very smooth roads, or you may be needing new kidneys soon. ;)

Hmmm...
Couldn't seem to find any specs on the Yahoo board on Joes setup...Any clues?
I'm pretty set on running a set of 7.5"s with a 35 profile...I can't image there being that much of an issue there. But I'd love to see what Joe has for guidance... Thanks again. =) --->DJ --->Smooth roads? Here? Heh...kidneys are overrated anyway...=P |
I found this post from Joe on the ProtegeTech egroup.
"We also built a coil over and shortened strut for the protege that lowers the car 2.75 - 4 inches, I'm driving on them now. The complete shock spring coil over set is $1450 The limiting factor is my 215/3518 tires which is taller than stock and is actually a bit big for the car. The car ooks great though. Oh, and there are pics of his street car and the Word Challenge Touring car here. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/proteg...files/1999%2B/

Nice =)
Thanks for the help there. It looks like I may be in the clear If I keep the drop limited to the 1.5" I want to do, which is good to know. That pic is tight....I'm all excited now. =) --->DJ |
You realize that going with 18" wheels is going to add weight and reduce your acceleration right?
|
Yeah, I'm aware of the implications of the excess weight and size of the wheels. Unfortunate, but unavoidable.
However, I'm not really looking to build a drag car...at first. The aim is more of a show car, to see what I can produce on that end. I really like the looks of a lowered car with big rims, and I'm shooting for a body kit, custom paint, and interior work after the wheels. In the LONG run, though, I'm going the power route. I'm sadly stuck with the 99' LX 1.6L curse, so I'm staying away from performance mods until next spring, when the garage is prepped to swap in an FS-ZE. THEN I'll work on the performance, which, starting at 170 hp, is going to make the bigger wheels a moot point. =) With the parts becoming more and more available, and my resources in line, I should have a full on product by next fall-performance AND looks. Or that's the plan, anyway. =) |
